    Zaandam: Alaska May 9, 2007!

Anyone else going on this cruise with us? It will be the Zaandam's first Alaska cruise for 2007, R/T out of Vancouver and includes Tracy Arm and Skagway, both first for us!

Bill, that is great. Although since we have been to Alaska 2 times both in May and this last one was the very first week of the season we decided we wanted to see more green for next year so we are taking the Noordam the middle of June. We plan to book this when we are on the Veendam in 9 weeks so we can at least get some ship board credit since the cruise is so darn expensive.

Lisa: I noticed that you and Tom will be cruising a lot between now and next summer--lucky you!

I booked the Zaandam trip last week but will do air on our own---I recall that you arranged your own air for your Alaska cruise this year and recall you got nonstop r/t between here and Vancouver---which airline did you use?

We have booked a Cat C guarantee and will be happy with it, if it turns out that way. This will be our 4th time to Alaska but our first to Skagway---would you recommend the White Pass Railroad trip?

Hope you all are staying cool !

We have taken the WP&YRR trip a couple times. It is a nice excursion.

We have also done the White Pass and Yukon Railroad - 3 times - loved it. Only once did it rain while we were on the train.

    The scenery is spectacular!!

We have never taken an Alaskan cruise out of Seattle. One time we did take a 14 day one out of San Francisco. But all the others have been out of Vancouver.

Does the Zaandam go directly to Skagway?? Or will it be stopping at Haines where you have to take the ferry to Skagway?

How long will you be in Skagway?

If you have time, stroll around town - I wrote a review about Skagway on the Alaskan board when we got home from our cruises in June - check it out.

Bill, Air Canada has a Nonstop to Vancouver that leaves at 7:00 AM and arrives in Vancouver at 10:10 which actually would be a perfect time if you did not want to stay over a day. But since both our cruises up there this year left on a Sunday we decided to go up on Saturday and spend the night. Coming home form Vancouver is also very good timing. Air Canada has a nonstop that leaves at 1:50. The prices were actually really. I had booked using our United Air miles last August and at that time there was not the Nonstop on Air Canada so it took us a bit longer routing thru Denver but for this next cruise in 9 weeks we will go Air Canada

Next year when we do the Noordam out of Seattle it will also leave on Sunday so I think we will take Southwest on Saturday or who knows we may end up on Uni(TED) again.

Up until the last fews years there were very few out of Seattle.
This year there are 9 ships based here. In September we will take out 7th trip up there. It will be the 3nd time we leave out of Seattle.
