    Seabourn to Lose the "Yachts"

Seabourn Plans to Eliminate “Yachts” from Company Name
    December 06, 2010 7:52 PM
The Yachts of Seabourn is planning to revert back to its original name -- Seabourn Cruise Line. The luxury line is dropping “The Yachts of” part of the name and “very soon” will just use Seabourn Cruise Line, according to a holiday email message to travel agents from a Seabourn sales representative. A new logo has already been developed.

The company began promoting itself as The Yachts of Seabourn a number of years ago. The reason for the change back was not immediately clear -- company representatives were not immediately available for comment late on Dec. 6 -- but it is possible that part of the rationale stems from the fact that the line has new, larger ships. The two new ships -- the 32,000-ton Seabourn Odyssey and Seabourn Sojourn -- are three times the size of the 10,000-ton Seabourn Pride, Spirit and Legend.

The name Seabourn Cruise Line never entirely disappeared -- the company listing is such in the Cruise Lines International Association 2010 Source Book for media, although it then is subsequently called The Yachts of Seabourn.

Smart move. I always hated "The Yachts Of Seabourn" because that makes me think of a tiny ship being rocked with the waves like the Ocean Motion ride at amusement parks. Some cruisers say they actually do feel that on the smaller ships. I would not be comfortable with that at all.

Why didn't CLF change the name of its Seabourn forum?

Agreed, it's a smart move. "The Yachts of Seabourn" was a silly and pretentious name imho.
