    Second thoughts on Voyager cruise....help

We are beginning to have second thoughts about our April cruise on Voyager out of Galveston. Costa Maya was removed from the itenerary due to Hurricane Dean, then at first there were reports of replacing it with Playa Del Carmen. Latest is no replacement ,but also no price drop or obc. For us this has turned into a 2 port cruise with Roatan and Cozumel, due to the other being Progresso which we are really not interested in.So... we are now thinking about cancelling unless RCI does something, but so far they are not budging on the price . Opinions please,(i know i'm leaving myself open), would you go anyway?, should they drop the price?,offer a obc?,or would you cancel as well. Also factoring in that we have done two western Caribb. cruises in a row. Thanks .

If you are not interested in doing the western again, then by all means cancel and book another itinerary. You need to be happy with the ports and if you are not, your cruise will not be as enjoyable as you are expecting.

I would change too, if you aren't happy now, you won't be then either, and the longer you wait the less choices you will have, line, ship, cabin, itinerary!!
Some people try to turn back their odometers. Not me! I want people to know why I look this way. I've traveled a long way, and some of the roads weren't paved.

My gut feeling is that I would wait to see if the itinerary changes in the next 2 months. You can cancel at any time up to final payment date without any penalty, so why not take a look around and see if anything sounds better, but hold onto this, just in case it ends up being a cruise you would like? Or the best one available?

I will be honest - I haven't been to Progresso, so I do not know how it compares with Costa Maya. It also has beaches and Mayan ruins, but I do not see anything about snorkeling or scuba there.

But the bottom line is that if you are not interested, that's all that matters. After all, this is your vacation, and vacation time in the US is too precious to spend going somewhere you may not enjoy. I've gone places my husband wanted to see and I wasn't so sure about, and was pleasantly surprised. But if neither of you are interested, this is less likely to happen.

This is what I have been thinking of too.At the beginning we got excited about the Voyager being available right here in Galveston, and we thought the ship would be enough ,now not so much with another western Caribbean cruise under our belts,(literally, lol) .I would feel better about it if Playa had been substituted,or a nice obc would make me smile. Not cheap,,just frugal . I have just paid the dep., final not due 'til Febuary.I could hold on a little longerI guess. Anyone been on Voyager class? Is it still worth it with a weaker port schedule?

We've been on the Voyager-class ships three times and absolutely love them! They are an adventure in themselves.

But I do agree with the other comments; I think if it were me, I'd be waiting to see if things change between now and final payment date. After all, you can cancel up until that date without any penalties. If they don't lower the price or change the itinerary to your satisfaction, then cancel and find something else. (If you decide on another RCCL cruise, the'll transfer the deposit to another cruise.)

I know alot of times the cruise lines play a waiting game to see if the situation changes before determing whether to cancel or change a port of call. Some wait longer than others; Carnival is very good at waiting until the last minute before advising passengers what they're going to be doing. But based on past practice, I would venture to say that RCCL will probably substitute another port and then you'll have to decide whether that's worth it to you or not.

It basically boils down to what you're looking for in your cruise; the ports of call, the ship, days at sea, etc. Compare this against your other choices and go with your decision, whatever it may be. Then enjoy yourself.

Tx firefighter - I have been on Adventure OTS, one of Voyager's sister ships. We had two days at sea and didn't have enough time to do everything on the ship. (Never got to go ice skating, for instance.) I too was very excited about Voyager coming to Galveston, since I live so close.

Losing a port to get an extra day at sea on this ship is a selling point for us, but I wish it could have been Cozumel or Progreso instead of Costa Maya. I thought we would go to Chichen Itza from Progreso, but it is 3 hours in each direction to get maybe 2 hours at the most famous and one of the largest Mayan ruins, and we decided that this would not do the site justice.

But this ship could easily be a destination on its own. If you are athletic, there is roller blading, ice skating, and miniature golf. This is in addition to the standard RC pools, rock wall, track and huge spa. If you like shopping, there is the Promenade. There are 15 bars, and several places to eat, including Johnny Rockets. The casino is a good size. The kids area has a great arcade, and I saw with my own eyes that not every kid in that arcade was under 21. If you are more of a quiet person, the library is a nice size, and there is a movie theater as well. You could easily forget to get off the ship.

I agree that that they should refund the port fee if they end up going to only 3 ports - they will make it back in the bars and casino in an hour, most likely. However, I do not think working through customer service will make that happen, unless you are a TA who gives them lots of business. I think this something that will take a letter to the front office.

It would be a mistake to miss the Voyager just because you feel your being short changed. It's a great ship. Your still getting three ports and it's certainly not RCI's fault that a hurricane wiped out the pier at Costa Maya. I've had it booked for a long time in order to get my cabin and I have no problem with the change. I'll put the extra port time in Progreso to good use.

Well, sounds like you'll be happy then. You're not getting the entire point.Never said RCI was responsible for Dean .???? Other lines are replacing the port, and we're not interested in Progresso.Just my opinion . Just trying to decide if the ship is enough THIS time.Like I said ,we've done two westerns now, just having second thoughts. We can always sail a Voyager class ship at some other point in the future. Our cruising is definately ahead of us!

    Thanks everyone for the opinions.
