Georgia, RCCL has fishing excursions in both Ketchikan and Sitka. None of these are cheap, but these could be once in a lifetime opportunities. In Sitka, you can go Halibut fishing or Sportfishing. In Ketchikan, you can go Salmon fishing or go on an excuriosn where you fish and then dine on your catch. There may be other excurision from these ports, but that is what they had when I last did research.

Here is a link to all the excursions RCCL has in Alaska. You'll need to check the ports in your particular itinerary.

Thanks McCruiser I went and looked and I saw a salmon fishing excursion in Juneau.
She may not get a BIG fish but have to settle for a salmon.
Maybe we'll find an excursion thats for bigger fish.
We'll keep looking and if anyone knows of anything let me know.

As far as fishing up in Alaska I can give you a little additional information.
Halibut are generally larger than salmon but don't put up a lot of fight. The work is in pulling them up off the botton. The salmon can can be pretty good size, 35-40 lbs is not uncommon. They do put up a fight.

Just found this thread, and as someone mentioned, I DO like to talk about SE Alaska. So does Alisa, and we have two very different viewpoints, but lots of agreement. I live here, and cruise the Caribbean and Baja so far, she lives in CA and cruises Alaska and other ports. She really loves her Alaskan cruises, and does some of the more adventurous excursions.(dog sledding on the glacier, etc) I am a little more staid in my adventures, not boring but not quite so active.

That being said, I feel it is my duty to help visitors to my town have the best time ever!!! GG, you will find fishing excursions throughout Southeast AK, and the fishing is good whichever port you could choose, Sitka, Ketchikan, Juneau... the folks who fish know their business and the fish are pretty abundant. Salmon fishing costs a little less, and the fish are plenty big. It is very exciting to experience, even if one is not an avid fisherman. (I do fish and spend time on the water whenever possible) Look for a good deal with one of the larger companies. One of our Cruiselinefan members(CancanCase) owns a company with a very good reputation in Juneau. It is Alaska Marine Adventures, here is a link to their website. www.AlaskaFishCharter.comThere are some others out there, and I will check if you would like.

It all depends on the budget and your style of touring when coming to the Alaskan ports. It is expensive here, but there are also some real bargains if you know where to look. For instance, you can ride the whole Juneau loop on our transit buses for $1.50. However there are not alot of stops downtown, but just ask, someone will direct you. The Juneau Trolley company does an all day pass and tour of downtown and to threemile for less than 10 dollars. There are a couple of independant tours that do a bare bones tour to the Glacier, and then their are lovely guided tours who take in all of the local sites and have the patter down..and you pay more for the experience.

If one stays downtown right by the cruise docks you see the same stores you see in Caribbean ports, Diamonds Int'l, etc. But walk a couple of blocks towards the Capitol, (everything North of the Red Dog Saloon)and you see where the locals shop, and are. There is a Juneau walking tour, and lots of folks to help you get your bearings. Downtown within a short walk of the cruise docks are our state and city museums, the Capitol Building, our state office building with the best photo spot in town on their eighth floor ourdoor garden and patio, many historical buildings.(I work in the old Hospital,)If you are in Juneau on a Friday there are free concerts at noon at the state office building and in the evening near the cruise ship docks on our city promenade.

I will shut up now. At the risk of overloading with info. But ask any questions, and if I don't know, I will try and find out. McCruiser is a great researcher as well.
