    Internet service on the Vision

I have read on CC reviews that internet service on the Vision is VERY slow. Many people reported wasting upwards of an hour just trying to get online and then very slow service afterwards. They were occationally able to get reimbursements from the Purser's desk, but had still wasted a lot of personal time.
I'm a bit of an internet addict, I like to go on at least once a day and on our last cruise I had designed a website for our friends/family to check out while we were away. I updated it every night with pictures of where we were and what we were doing. It almost sounds like this would be a bad idea on the Vision.

Has anyone sailed the Vision lately? How was your internet service?

I haven't been on Vision, but I imagine it's similar to Rhapsody. There is an internet cafe on Deck 8, and I don't remember it being fast or slow. In fact, I think it was faster than Serenade, where we had access in our cabin. I know that we were on it every day - I was checking ebay, since it was right before Xmas, and my husband was checking which teams got into which bowl games. High priorities when you are on vacation, I'm sure you'll agree.

There may also be some Wi-Fi hot spots on the ship.

Wi-Fi would be super, we always travel with a lap top, which is how I keep my page updated. I want everyone back home working to know exactly how much work I am NOT doing!
And talk about high priorities... I need to keep an eye on that WSU Cougars vs UCLA Bruins football game on 10/30 if I can't find a bar with a TV already playing it.

If there's enough people interested in the same game, the guy in charge of TV satellite acquisition will make sure that one TV will show it. Been there!!!!

Since you are sailing out of CA, you have a good chance of them picking up the game.

I was on the Vision last month and the internet was quite slow. It took about 35 minutes to send out my frubals. That was in Alaska. I believe it was slightly faster when we were in Mexico.

Another option is to look for internet places onshore. In PV there is a place just about 1 block from the dock that charged $1 per hour for access. (this was last January)

John, I was hoping you would find this thread, since you were just on her.
Thanks for the info and great tip on the internet in PV. I might just have to do that instead of depending on internet on the ship.
WHAT AM I SAYING?! Life without internet?!!! It will be like living in the 80's all over again! Heven forbid I go without internet AND cell phone for an entire week. It's like I'm taking a vacation or something!

One of the reasons I got into cruising was the getting away from all contact with work. Ship to shore was about $25 per minute back then.

Now I would not go without my cell phone and the internet is available onboard and at most ports. Not that I use my phone while cruising but it is nice to have if there are any problems getting to or from the ship. (and to call cruise friends and say "guess where I am?")

I LOVE those "guess where I am" or "guess what I am doing while you are sitting there at your desk" phone calls!

I tried getting on the internet on the Jewel of the Seas last week.......to check emails and send some Fru's...........and was very dissapointed in the speed......or lack of it is more to the point!!

The Guest Relations desk credited me several times, as I used up money just trying to get on!!

Rick, where did you sail on the Jewel? Do you think location had anything to do with it?

We sailed the Adventure last year on a Southern Caribbean itinerary. I had no problem getting on or using service. It was not fast, but not terribly slow. About the speed of a low dial-up connection. I WAS using my own lap top, however, and just took it to the RC Online or Guest Relations (rebooking) lounge to assure a good wi-fi connection.
