Okay, I am in the minority. We had the middle aft, deck 7 on Splendour of the Seas. I was very disappointed that we could not look down into the water, but rather looked down onto another large deck. There was also a lot of superstructure. Yes, the balcony was deeper than the regular balcony and we had 2 lounge chairs out there with our table. My DH did like sleeping out there a couple of nights. I also didn't like the time it took to get to the cabin when I forgot something!
I have seen afts that don't have the same problems that ours did, but I still don't think I would book one again.
It is good that there are so many choices and that all of us can be happy!

We had an aft cabin (oceanview, no balcony) on one cruise and we would watch the wake and see where we've been. This last cruise we made sure to book a midship inside because we had heard it can get pretty rough. And it did.

We have booked a veranda cabin on the new Noordam for September. I was interested to read your comments in that although we've had cabins in the aft area of the ship, we have never faced aft. Do you think you miss much of the view back there????
We were convinced to try an aft facing cabin because of the size of the veranda. The Vistas regular veranda cabins have very small balconies compared to HAL's older ships.

I find the wake absolutely mesmerizing, so we loved our aft balcony! But I have to agree, it's a long walk if you want to get to the front of the ship!

I agree with everyone else who commented how great the aft cabins are. My last two cruises were in the same corner aft cabin. It was great.
Now how can you find fault with this balcony.
