I have a cousin who lives on Vancouver Island...wonder how far that actually is from Vancouver.
Where abouts on Vancouver Island? It's about 1 1/2 hours by ferry to Victoria or Nanaimo, the two main ferry terminal on the island. Vancouver island is quite large...
I was just trying to remember where...i thought it was niamo...but guess i mean nanaimo
I havent ever been there..thought it would be kinda cool to actually visit..but och well.

you could still go Liz, the ferrys there are pretty good prices. The trip isn't too long.
Nanaimo is pretty known for a junior hockey team they have there. I also hear its supposed to be beautiful

I've been to Victoria several times and would love to go back again.
That is one of the reasons I will be probably spending a few days before the cruise with a side trip to Victoria.
I have also traveled from Prince Rupert to Port Hardy on BC Ferries.
If you think the cabins on a cruise ship are small, try a car ferry, they're
about the size of a jail cell. Before anyone makes a comment, the reason I know that is that I worked in a jail, I wasn't an inmate.
Port Hardy is at the northern end of Vancouver Island. From there I took a bus to Courtenay. I then took the Malahat, VIA Rail's service connecting to Victoria. The train consists of 2 Budd RDC cars and is a step back in history.
There is a shuttle from Seattle to Vancouver. It is pretty cheap per person. There are different pick up sites. The airport, downtown in a couple of places.

The company is Quick Shuttle and I've used them several times for group transfers and tours. They operate from Vancouver and Seattle, They also service SeaTac airport, the cruise ports in Vancouver and Seattle and also hotels in Vancouver and Seattle.
I just spoke with the owner today about our group in '07.
once in CA, take the 5 N... at some point I think you need to connect with the 280 North
I-5 will get you to Canada. After you cross the border I believe they call it 99.
