Question Astoria, Oregon: What is there?

I decided it can't hurt to see if Princess has scheduled any May 2013 cruises yet. Why not if I want to book ASAP when they go on sale? So I did a broad search for that and found this: Los Angeles to Vancouver, 7 nights, one sea day. Ports of call are (in order) Santa Barbara, San Francisco, Astoria, Seattle, and Victoria. Four of those look great to me, but Astoria? Is there really anything worth seeing before 4:00 p.m.? I assume the reason that stop is short is it has little to offer. (The Sapphire Princess also will leave Santa Barbara at 4:00.)

There is another cruise a week earlier on the same ship that goes the opposite direction (RT Los Angeles), but I would rather go to Canada than Mexico and want a sea day in my cruise itinerary. It also would be nice to celebrate Mother's Day on vacation (my mom is going with me) and I can do that by taking the May 11 cruise. So I need to know what to do in Astoria. No, I have not been to Oregon yet.

We have stopped in Astoria several times and are doing so again this fall.

They have a website with a lot of information. Official site of the Astoria & Warrenton Area Chamber of Commerce and the State of Oregon Welcome Center at Astoria.

Some of the shorex usually offer by the ships include a trip to the Tillimook dairy, Seaside OR and Cannon Beach. We have been up the column for wonderful views. There is also a maritime museum.

When we lived in Oregon, we went to Astoria and stayed for a couple of days. It was absolutely wonderful and we would go there again in a heartbeat! Beautiful scenery, lovely people, good food, interesting, nice shopping, laid back, comfortable - these are just a few words to describe how we felt about it.

I looked at several websites and discovered a national historical park honoring Lewis and Clark, Fort Clatsop, and a column I can climb to get panoramic views. But nothing looks more exciting to me than the Flavel House Museum, an old Victorian house.

I would be more excited about this small port if I could also visit a national park south of Bend but don't think there is a way to do it.
