Thumbs up Free Admission to National Parks

More than 100 national parks, including Yosemite, Rocky Mountain, Yellowstone, Acadia and more are waiving admission fees on select days and weeks throughout the year. National Park Week runs from April 16 through 24, during which entrance fees are waived. There is also no entrance fee on the first day of summer (June 21), Public Lands Day (September 24) or during Veterans Day weekend (November 11 through 13). A full list of parks is available online.

For more information and reservations, visit the National Park Service Web site.

Exclamation Not always a good way to save money

That information is helpful for people traveling this year but dates will be slightly different in 2012.

I actually had no choice on when to go to Yosemite: The only two consecutive days in June (after finals were over at Ohio State) a room at Yosemite Lodge was available were the 15th and 16th. I was there at the perfect time because the park got more snow in the winter than usual so extra unnamed waterfalls were seen that week. We would have gone in May to beat the crowd if my sister was not taking classes during the spring quarter.

In other words, sometimes it is worth spending the $10 entry fee.

I posted that in March and it mentioned that it was for THIS year. Sorry it wasn't helpful or useful to you.

Janice, I certainly appreciated this info! We live just 90 miles from Yosemite and very rarely go there as it's just too close But I did let my DS know and took DGD with him and they got in free. He thanks you too!
