Thanks Beth!

I've been to Washington DC twice before, but I guess I never thought about going to Baltimore before. Next time I get to chance to go to the East Coast, I'll have to keep this in mind.It sounds like a great city!

There are some great places in Annapolis as well.
Food for thought!

I'm from Baltimore and would just like to add that Power Plant Live is a fun place to hang out if you are in town the night before the cruise. They have a Comedy Club, Piano Bar, 70's/80's Dance Club, and many other options for a fun night on the town.

If you haven't tried steamed crabs, that is a must do. I would recommend Phillip's in Harborplace.

Just a sidenote:

I'm in the process of putting together a group cruise on the Grandeur for next summer/fall 2006. At this point, I don't have exact dates and rates. I'm pretty flexible and just looking for general interest. We can work together to find a date that works for everyone.

This cruise is for 5 nights and it sails from Baltimore, MD to Bermuda and back. I have heard many great things about this ship and the port of Bermuda!

This group is open to everyone: couples, families, singles, etc..

It should be a lot of fun! Please reply if you have any interest and would like more info. Looking forward to chatting with everyone!

Jen

Jen,
Sounds great! Can't wait to hear more on the cruise. Thank you also for sharing what you know of Baltimore. I'm west of there, and it's nice to have someone in the heart of the city checking in!

Are they still giving tours of the old sailing ships down in the Harbor? I wasn't sure...

Beth,

I'm actually not in the heart of the city myself. I'm in Baltimore County (near Towson). I have been to Power Plant a few times and found it fun. I'm not sure about the tours of the ships.

Did you want some more info on the cruise for next fall. We haven't completely picked a date yet, but I have been given some rates by a travel agent. I'm still shopping it around to get the best possible price. I'm still trying to get an idea of what would work for everyone in my group. I'm leaning toward Oct or Aug. Have you ever sailed out of Baltimore? I think it will be neat to just leave my house and get right on the ship and avoid the whole airplane step. It saves $ too.

Jen
PS I like your avatar. Are you a coaster fanatic?

Hi Jen!
I'm not a coaster fanatic, but my hubby is, and over the years he is weaning me onto them. I scream out of fun not terror these days.

I would be interested in the cruises. I am interested for the same reasons - save $$ on airfare. Never sailed out of Baltimore, but after the Beltway and Tysons Corner boogie, it should be a breeze!

Beth,

My feeling about the airfare is that if my dh and I go alone, it isn't too bad of an extra cost. But we are still debating on whether or not to take our 2 kids. They are pretty young, but I hear that RC has a great kids program. So, we'll see. Will you be bringing kids if you go? Plus it will be so much less hassle.

We have a 15 year old and an 11 year old. They havea great kids program for kids of all ages, with groups and different activities by age. They will love it.

My dh is from Maryland...moved up to NH around 1997 or so...he is from Bowie...we were in Tysons Corner this past Labor Day for a funeral...elderly great aunt, and did some visiting while there.

I wouldn't mind the Grandeur out of Baltimore...easy and cheap flight from NH to BWI...but...not during school for my kids...my daughter will be a senior next fall and my son in 8th grade.

My kids had alot of fun on the Voyager in the kids room...RCI does have a good program.

Dining in Ball'mer

If you have time in Baltimore, be sure to go to (almost any restaurant) in Little Italy, just walking distance from the inner harbor...and don't overlook Phillips Crabhouse which I think is still in the Harbor Place.
If you're in Ball'mer and don't like seafood, just kill yourself! LOL
