    Underground from HEATHROW

I just wanted those who might be travelling to London via Heathrow to know that British airways has posted this info: NOTE - the link to teh underground website was replaced by me.....

"Customers using the London Underground to travel to and from London Heathrow’s Terminal 4 from January 2005 are being advised to allow extra time for their journeys.
The construction of a new junction on the Piccadilly Line means that the Terminal 4 'loop' section of track – including the Terminal 4 station - will be closed to the public for 20 months, between 7 January 2005 and September 2006.

The closure will only affect passengers using Terminal 4. Those travelling to Terminals 1, 2 and 3 will benefit from shorter journey times. Every effort is being made to minimise inconvenience to passengers.

Effective 7 January 2005, a free, dedicated bus service will be provided between Hatton Cross station and Terminal 4, running every 6 to 7 minutes and dropping passengers off at the terminal entrance.

London Underground is implementing a comprehensive programme of customer information, publicity and assistance. This includes amending maps, providing leaflets at stations and special announcements by Tube drivers and at stations. Additional train ticketing facilities and London Underground staff will be available at Hatton Cross during the period of the closure to help passengers.

Passengers will still be able to transfer free of charge between Terminal 4 and Terminals 1, 2 and 3 using the Heathrow Express.
London Underground advise that customers with significant mobility problems should choose this option. Passengers using this route should allow an extra 30 minutes to complete their journey.

For further information you can visit the London Underground website if you click here. http://www.tfl.gov.uk/tube/

You will find lots of useful information on this site such as getting to Heathrow, journey planners, ticket and timetable information and Tube maps. Please note: This link is to an external website, not ba.com. British Airways is not responsible for the information contained in this website and that different terms and conditions may apply."

    HOPE THIS HELPS!!!

What kind of facilities do the trains have for your baggage? Do you have to handle it yourself or are there porters?

I loved the underground for getting around town but don't know that I would want the hassle of baggage going to the port.

And the steps. The number of stairs in the London underground is simply amazing - and most stops do not have lifts or escalators.

I would never use the underground - the tube - to and from Heathrow.
Its crowded and with almost no space for your luggage.
When I used to live in London, all Londoners used to get annoyed with all the luggage and the over crowded Piccadilly line.
Its faster, 15 minutes, more comfortable but a little bit more expensive to use the Heathrow express train.
