    The real Downton Abbey

If you are a fan of the TV show Downton Abbey, why not visit Highclere Castle home of the Earl and Countess of Carnarvon. The 5th Earl with Howard Carter discovered the tomb of Tutankhamun, in 1922.

Best of all it is only 35 miles from Southampton.

AH I didn't realize it was only 35 miles from Southampton.
My California cousin wants to go to see it and I am trying to persuade her to join us on our lightning visit in January where we arrive on QM2 and depart on QV later the same day. Wonder if there is time to fit that in ?

It might be a bit tricky, unless Cunard are offering it as a tour.

But what are you going to give up, Tony? I think you have a full two weeks of stuff planned already!

They do offer tours for people staying on the same ship, I am not sure what they do if you are changing ship.

When I disembarked the Star Princess In Buenos Aires Princess also offered a day excursion tour that ended up taking people to the airport for flights home.
