    Liverpool Cruise Terminal Saga Thickens

The cruise terminal at Liverpool was built with a certain portion of public funds. The city council is now hoping to redefine the terminal's use as a port of embarkation and disembarkation of cruise passengers, rather than just a stop over port. Some correction in funding will apparently have to be made and may threaten the expansion plans the city council has in mind.

There's also been a bit of a PR war between the cruise terminals in the UK travel press. This I'm sure will fan those fire a little bit.

It would be great from me if Liverpool did get the right to act as a turn around port. It's about 50 miles from where I live, Southampton is 250 miles away.

I suppose, in addition to rooting for Liverpool, you'll have to root against Tyneside.

It seems they also are getting into the fight against Liverpool becoming more than just a turnaround port

Having been to the dock in North Shields it's not a patch on the one in Liverpool.

I am sure there is enough business for everyone to have a bit.

That's what I've been thinking, Stephen. I'm no expert on the region by any means, but it sure would seem that a joint effort supporting the cruise industry UK-wide would be much more productive than all the individual terminals fighting amongst themselves.

I understand the dilemma about public funds being used in a different manner than originally intended, but surely this is not a good long term strategy to promote the cruise business in the UK, as a whole.

Can you imagine being on a Beetles remembrance cruise from Liverpool to NYC? Would get a lot of attention.

That would be interesting...... I know you did comment on your Beatles band on your cruise. It would fit in perfectly with this agenda.
