Liverpool UK

The city of Liverpool in the North West of England has just spent £19,000,000.00 on a new cruise liner facility. The dock is very close to the city centre, so there is no need for a shuttle bus.
The maritime museum is well worth a visit and only a few minutes walk away, past the "three graces", that’s the Liver Building, the Cunard Building and the Port of Liverpool Building. There are also two cathedrals to visit and St George’s Hall, which is just incredible.

Thanks, I will try to find out which ships are calling next year, and put a list on here. Sorry no more pictures, but next time I visit I will take some.

Crystal Serenity visited in July and was given a Civic welcome to the city. At the moment Fred Olsen, Princess (Crystal Princess I think) and Thomson are using Liverpool as point of departure or point of call in 07/08. 'Cunard' provided much of the funding for the new terminal so hopefully there'll be more and better voyages using the Port. QE2 visits again as part of her farewell tour next year.

The terminal only opened a few weeks ago and it's hoped that it'll help to regenerate the days when the city was one of the greatest ports in the world. Liverpool is European Capital of Culture in 2008 and investment in the city and facilities is phenomenal. In addition to the attractions mentioned by Lanky, there's a Maritime Museum, Tate Gallery, Walker Art Gallery, Albert Dock, Beatles Story, fine restaurants and ............I could go on. There's something for everyone. I work in the city and live on the other side of the river and the changes over the past 2 or 3 years are beyond belief and all for the better. Great photos Lanky.

Thanks Anita, and thanks for the extra info. It would be great if some lines sailed from Liverpool, a 50 mile trip to liverpool would be much better than a 250 mile trip to Southampton.

Thanks for the info on Liverpool's new cruise terminal. The city is certainly re-inventing itself to just being more than the home of the Beatles and an old industrial city. I've never been there personally but do like what they are trying to accomplish and hope that the tourism, and particularly the cruise, industry strengthens. As some have pointed out before there is more to the UK than just London.

David

BTW, the pictures are great!

Depends on where you live. If one has to come across the ocean then it doesn't really matter too much.

Hi David, but Liverpool's much further north, so good access to Scotland, Wales, Lake District. And no need to avoid London!
