I used to have to roll my car down the hill and pop the clutch to start it.

I can see me driving over there. I would drive the wrong side of the road.

I change from right to left - or left to right - every six months.

Think abaht it - steering wheel should always be in the middle of the road!!! Whichever side you drive on!!

Oh, my Rolls Cunardley joke got ruined!! Neal refused to play - how irritating!!

No-one commented on 'white van man' though!!

In the UK white van man means someone who is driving his firm's van and doesn't care about it or fellow road users, so drives like a maniac, won't let you into the line, ignores parking restrictions etc etc. and when you want the collective view of the British working class you might say, ask White Van Man...

Actually they are much maligned and because they do a lot of driving, often some of the better drivers on the road.

Sorry MysteryGal - but this is a sort-of Ingerland thread!! Just don't take drivers of white vans in the UK for granted, when you are there!!

Obviously, this is a jokey generalisation - not all white van drivers are like that - there are cultural differences between the US and UK you know. After all, we speak English and you speak American!!

In fact, here in Florida when people comment that they like my accent, I get all huffy (not really, just makes a better story!) and say, that I am English and you have an American accent!! Hehehehe!!!

Other differences - oh yes, your french fries are our chips!!! Hence fish'n'chips!! BTW, anyone in Ft. Lauderdale for a few days, try Seawatch on A1A in Pompano - best fish'n'chips we have ever had. Must have the tartare sauce with the fish and the Malt Vinegar on the chips (fries).

Oh, and expect cars and electrical items to cost double in the UK. 'Rip-off Britain' we call it!!

Talk about accents. When I first moved to Rhode Island it was hard to understand what some of the people with the new england accents had to say.
