Jim - I've been to London many times, but never on a cruise. Been there on land tours and on our own. Last time was about 5 years ago. It's one of my favorite cities. I can't help you regarding travel to the port, but if you have any other questions, just ask.

Thanks Kathy............

1. Where did you stay and was it expensive?

We are going in at least 2 days early before the cruise

2. Is there a "good part" or bad part of town to avoid?

Thanks again

Jim, London is quite expensive. Hotels frequently change names, but I think the Hilton Green Park is still the same. Rooms are tiny but it's a great location. A walk through Green Park and you are at Buckingham Palace. And you can walk to Picadilly Square. Another was the Forum. A very nice hotel, but you need to take public transportaion into the Trafalgar Square area. We used the Underground. It's convenient to use and easy to understand. I would stay away from Soho. Haversmith area hotels are good but a good distance away from everything. Hotels in the Kensington area are also good, and it's not too far from the city center. Kensington is a nice area to stay. We have also stayed in the Selfridge Hotel on Oxford St. That would be expensive. If you find a hotel near Trafalgar Square, Parliament, Westminster Abbey you will be pretty much in the thick of things, but you will pay more. I would suggest Kensington. If you research and find specifics, I'll try to advise you. I love London. It's a hustle bustle city, but exciting. You can buy a ticket on the Big Red Bus and get on and off al day at different places of interest. It is also a great walking city. Very safe (at least until 5 years ago) and easy to get around. Hope I helped.

Actually, from what I have read the train runs from Liverpool Street Station and there is a special train that runs on cruise days and takes you right to the port. Hope this helps!
