Alisha, sorry to scare you. My answer was in response to a cab hire question from OP about Harwich to Heathrow.
There is also a train terminal in Harwich but I believe that involves transfering around. I know to take the train from Central London to Harwich you have to handle your own luggage.
I still would think RCI is the best option if you are going from ship to airport.

thanks Micki. I appreciate the clarification. I beleive someone else told me that there was the train option. but i didn't realize that you'd have to switch terminals.. that would be a problem with luggage.

i think you're right, RCI transfer is the best way to go

We have used airporttransfers.biz before and have them booked for both directions in July for our Jewel Baltics cruise. Our quote is £280 (about $510) for an eleven-passenger van with a luggage trailer. There are 8 of us, but we all take a lot of luggage and wanted to be sure we had room. I know there are other companies and several get good reviews. I can speak only to this one and the fact that we are using them again speaks to our level of satisfaction.

I think the RCCL transfer is about $85/person and, given the distance and alternatives, it isn't a bad deal. But if you have a group, you can do it cheaper. Our cost is about $64 p/p. Plus, we don't have to wait until a bus is full before we go.

I like private transportation and usualy find it cheaper than what the cruise line offers for their bus service. It is always quicker with less hastle.

Of course, you need a group (or find people on the message boards) to share the transportation. I am all set to get to Harwich from our hotel in London. Cost $45pp which includes tip. There are 5 couples sharing the van and we are staying at different hotels.

Now looking for people on the Jewel who are going back to Heathrow on 9/11 to fly home immediately after the cruise is over. We have a few couples and need a few more to make it cost effective.

If anyone wants to join us please email me at

cruiztime@yahoo.com.

Many thanks,

Marion

We used Woodford! I would reccommend them and will use them again without a doubt. They're pricey - BUT - only if you're traveling alone. They quote a price per carload, not per person, so if you can share the ride with a few others, they're price can actually be lower than the transfer price from the ship.

As an example; We shared the ride from Harwich to Heathrow with another couple. The price was 185 GBP - yes expensive...but split four ways, it ended up costing about the same as the $85/pp person charge for a one-way transfer from Celebrity. Plus, we got the personal service! If we had one more couple, it would have been even cheaper.

Allen and I used them on our own from London to Dover to catch the ship.....I'll tell you - I'll pay more a for a 2 hour drive in a chauferred Mercedes over a bus any day. Besides, the transfers from the ship only pick you up at the airport and we were staying in central London.

BTW- if any of you use Woodford - ask for Bob....he was a GREAT Driver!
