    Great places for afternoon tea

I'm not looking for recommendations for any particualr city, just great places in the UK to enjoy afternoon tea. We'll be exploring all over, so it would be nice just to pop into someplace that we are assured will be wonderful. It's our favorite time of day! Please include addresses if you can, or give a sense of where it is, in addtion to the locality.

    Thanks in advance~

    Hi there!

    A few suggestions:
In London, try Fortnum & Mason (www.fortnumandmason.com) or the Ritz Hotel (www.theritzlondon.com)

    Outside of London:
Devon - for a traditional Devon Cream Tea.
Sidmouth is a beautiful seaside town with lots of places for tea. The Riviera Hotel is nice www.hotelriviera.co.uk

Also Saunton Sands on the north Devon coast - fantastic views and great afternoon tea www.sauntonsands.co.uk

Let me know if you want any more suggestions or any specific locations in the UK!

Thanks Jodi and Julie Jean ... we have had tea at Harrods .... and also the Brown and St. George Hotel in London, but it was a few years ago. We will be going to the UK this summer and really just exploring where the mood strikes us, since we'll be bringing two teenage daughters (and it will be their first time). We are brave enough to get a rental car, and expect to drive to Scotland, too.

    All your help is appreciated!
    Cheers~

    Hi Nicki

If you go to Scotland then a great place for tea (or any meal!) is Dalhousie Castle near Edinburgh.

    What about Manchester

I don't know if you'll ever get to this part of the UK. Many soccer fans come to see Old Trafford Football Ground - heaven knows why (but that's probably because I'm not a big football/socer fan).

If you do come to Manchester The Midland Hotel http://www.midlandhotelmanchester.co.uk does afternoon tea (more tradditional atmosphere/surroundings, as does The Lowry (more contemporary) http://www.thelowryhotel.com- both of which I am assured are excellent.

I would agree with Julie Jean - Fortnum & Masons is deffinately worth a vist. We go whenever we visit London.

I have moroted around both England and Scotland several times and have had some great afternoon teas. Jut don[t ask me where.'

I usually drive down High Steet of whatever little village is closest at tea time and look for some place that looks old and has lots of flower boxes and other containers with bright flowers. Anyone who cares enough to tend to bright flowers around their tea house serves great tea!!!!

Maybe the ambiance adds to it. Maybe sitting in the courtyared, when available and the sun is out, adds to the expereince.

Be bold, during, adventuresome and you will find many memorable places.

I also looked for pubs whose exterior had some charm for lunch. I fell in love with pub grub.

    love

For an amazing afternoon tea - without a doubt the Ritz in London but you HAVE HAVE HAVE to go to Devon for the original and best cream tea! A nice pot of tea with a scone and jam and cream! What more could you ask for really?! Here is some information about places to go for afternoon tea in East Devon. I would recommend visiting the area if only for the 2km long beach in Exmouth and the little seaside town of Sidmouth.
My parents live in Devon and with Christmas round the corner I have just booked my accommodation for the week! I love spending Christmas there as the atmosphere is always great and there are so many traditional pubs open on Christmas day for a cheeky beer before dinner!

We absolutely love cream tea any where it is served in England! The best places though are probably the little tea shops off the beaten path.

Cream tea is something I wish would have carried over to America. Maybe we made a mistake at that Tea Party. We should have dumped coffee.
