I replied to this thread and it went away.....The best thing about Kusadisi is the Oriental Bazaar downtown. You probably will spend most of your "port time" in Epeshsus (wrong spelling-brain not working well today). The locals pronounce the town name KU-SHAd-A-SEE. Have you picked up on the Turkish word for goodbye yet? It looks like Elasilitdic. It sounds like "I lost my little dick".
A true Turkey story. I once was in Turkey and had to go to Eastern Turkey on business. The Turkkish people are extremely accommadating- to the the point that saying no to them can offend their religious beliefs! Upon arrival at the Inn where I was to spend the night, I introduced myself to the innkeeper and informed him that my office had reserved a "single" room for the night for me. He asked to wait a few "moments" as the room was not ready. While sitting in the "lobby" I watched as a carpenter ran up the stairs, heard hammering, and then was led to my "single" room which was actually a double with a new plywood partitian down the middle! Ya gotta luv them!!!!

I'm sure I am going to giggle every time I hear them say goodbye!!!
So what was Ephasus like? I have heard the ruins are really good...true?
The ruins are probably the MOST Spectacular of the Ancient World! This is an on-going excavation site so they are constantly finding more (much like Troy, which is in Turkey also and has 12 layers of towns at the site, one on top of the other). While not restored, Ephesus is more viable because of its condition. That is you can tell what what was there-it is not just a "fallen down city" as my five year old niece (at that time) referred to many of the ruin sites. Ephesus was a major city/port in the Ancient World so it was occupied and kept up. Many ancient towns disappeared when the locals moved on to other places or they were destroyed by war. I promise you, Ephesus will be one of the highlights of your trip.
Thanks for that description. I am so looking forward to it!
When did you go to Turkey? I have heard that because of the political situation, some cruiselines have cancelled visits to Turkey. It's still on the excursion choices list for our trip, so I think it's still going to happen for us. I sure hope so!
Most of the cruise lines dropped Turkey a couple of years ago but have now started goin' again. We have never experienced anything but the most wonderful hospitality while there. The troubles were with the Kurds and now that their needs are being met somewhat in Iraq they have stopped their "publicity" attacks in the West. You should experience nothing more harmful than many, many other travellers. (Note: in your case, you no longer are tourists!)
