Good report Hanna. How bad is the VOG? I've only experienced it on the Big Island before.

Really quite big, especially in Honolulu. Never really did see the sun much, just the VOG.
That is why some of these pictures don't look as nice as they could have if the sun had been able to poke through. The TV had major VOG warnings everyday. No tradewinds while we were there to blow it away.

On board again and the announcement came that we would be passing the active volcano at about midnight. Like I could stay up

I really wanted to but we were in bed by 10 or so. At about 1am I was awake as the ship seemed to be doing something strange. Sure enough, I got up and saw the volcano from the balcony. The ship had slowed down considerably so that the pax could view the volcano. Of course it was pitch dark outside, but I did manage to get a couple of shots of the volcano.

I have to say that it was an awesome sight. We watched it for about 1/2 hour and then we were sailing off. I can hardly believe I saw something as fantastic as a live volcano.
The next morning, up bright and early again for a tour of Hilo craters. This was not my favorite excursion of the week, but it was ok. We walked the lava tube and saw some smoke from the craters. I had started to catch a cold that morning, so I really wasn't in to it like I should have been.
