Personally, we like to take the water taxi over to Virgin Gorda and go to The Baths.

Many go to Virgin Gorda to see the Baths. You can do this on your own, or book a ship excursion, or book a sail boat excursion that will take you there.

There is not a lot on the island. There are some shops not too far from the dock.

I have been to Cane Bay and found it was a nice beach. There are chairs and umbrellas for rent and a number of bars.

We got dropped off at Pussers on the way back and I tried a Pain Killer. I like booze but it was not to my liking.

A friend took the ship's snorkel tour and said it was great snorkeling.

Collin (Texas Firefighter) We absolutely LOVE Tortola!

If it's your first time, you may want to consider going to Virgin Gorda. It's lovely and interesting! Also, it's listed in that book -- 1,000 Places To Go Before You Die! Here's a site for wonderful map and lots of info:

    http://www.thebathsbvi.com

All cruise ships will have an excursion going there ... or you can go on your own via water taxi or private excrusion. The ship's excursion is the "easy way".

Since we've already been to The Baths several times, our new very favorite is an excursion called "Island Sailaway" (3 times on this one) which is on a sailing catamaran with a snorke stop and a beach/bar stop at "Pirates Blight" on Norman Island.

On our last trip to Tortola we did "BREWERS BAY -Secret Beach" and loved it. It's a bit of a long trip over some bad roads ... but worth it! Our review is posted here in case you are interested ... scroll or just click below:

    (Tortola: BREWER'S BAY BEACH - Report)http://www.cruiselinefans.com/tortola/19826-tortola-brewers-bay-beach-report.html

Hope you'll love Tortola as much as we do! Please feel free to ask if you have any questions.

You've been on a bunch of cruises. Will this be your first with a port stop in Tortola?

Collin & Hope .... It's never too early to start planning! That Freedom cruise is going to three of my favorite islands!

If you do go to Tortola, please consider The Baths for your first time. It's best done while you're young so you are agile enough to climb all through the boulders and really enjoy it.

After playing around "inside" our favorite place at the beach is just outside of the enterance ... protected area ... the water there has always been as clear as a fish bowl and quite calm with good snorkeling close by.

Yes, first stop by cruise ship. I went to Tortola in 1988 on a friend's boat as we toured the islands, but we stayed on the boat most of the time.
