    Virgin Gorda Baths

Tortola is on our list of ports of call for our Galaxy cruise next February. Someone suggested that we should go to the Baths in Virgin Gorda. The pictures I've found on the net look very nice and appealing and it sounds like a very good excursion to take.

Has anyone visited the Baths recently? Is this trip worth the money?

    Thanks.

Cat Woman .... YES! YES! YES! Going to The Baths of Virgin Gorda is so worth the effort!

It's something everyone should see at least once! In the book, 1,000 Places to See Before You Die, The Baths is listed as one of these.

Here's my favoirte map ( I'm in love with this map ):

We have been to the Baths a couple of times -- love it!!

But now with knee problems I wouldn't attempt that hill to get to the beach.

You can swim in - don't have to do the steps.

Oh yes, do go! I was there last month and loved it. Fortunately we did NOT swim in, there was an extremely dangerous undertow that day. Unusual, but nonetheless dangerous. We took the ferry. Went thru the boulder maze and had a nice couple of hours on the beach. Didn't swim though as it was a bit rough. I am already looking for cruises that have Tortola or Virgin Gorda on their itinerary.

Zydeco, great pictures! Orginially we wanted to swim in, forget why we decided not to, but it turned out that the water would have been to rough. What type camera did you use for your shots? Annieeee

How physical is a trip to the Baths? My Dad will be traveling with me and he usually does okay, but had a problem last year in Costa Rica with a long walk down uneven stone steps.

    Thanks - Carol

Walking in has perils, too, but injuries are not that common. The stairs are uneven and you do need to watch your step. Not overly hazardous, but there is potential.

There is a LARGE "video" on this page of the Baths and walking in.
    Islands of Liberty.

I've done both and prefer the swim, but will probably continue to do both.

Thank you. I mostly use a Canon S1 IS above and below water (with optional waterproof case). Unfortunately discontinued. Backup camera is an even more discontinued Canon s230 and also have a waterproof case for it.
Canon does still offer lots of cameras with "affordable" waterproof cases. Nikon and Olympus are also popular brands.

Photoshop Elements is a popular software package to automatically fix the colors after the fact.

I recently purchased a Canon a710 IS and am looking forward to trying it out, but will be a while before I get to try some underwater shots.
