    tipping on excursions

Do you tip the bus driver/ tour guide on excursions? If so, how much would you suggest?

    Thanks!

Gee we tip for everything!! But we don't do excursions. If it was a great tour I would give tham $10
Some people try to turn back their odometers. Not me! I want people to know why I look this way. I've traveled a long way, and some of the roads weren't paved.

We always tip on excursions. This is a throw back to all our European tours. It's expected on all city tours. Usually $2.50 pp to the tour director and $2.00 pp for the driver. More if we feel things were exceptional. If we went on a long bus tour we always tipped more per day.

Kathy- did you tip in American Dolalrs that you had - if you did, was it accepted? Or did you tip in the currency of the country?

On a snorkeling excursion in St. Thomas, I got a cramps in my legs, after swimming around non-stop for about 2 hours.

I was about 50 yards from the boat, but I couldn't get back without help. The guide jumped in (I was the last one in the water) and helped me back on the boat. I tipped him $60.00

I do believe that guides and drivers deserve a couple bucks each p/p, if they did well. Sometimes they're cranky or condescending, then they get a "thank you"

Presuming the excursion is good and it's a poor country, we tip $5-10. When in Costa Rica, we tipped more. They looked like they needed it more than I did.

I depends a lot on the tour driver. On one tour the driver was obviusly bored and said very little other than to complain about foreigners taking over the island. We only tipped him $5.00. Big T, our tour guide in the Bahamas was a blast and not only gave us a great tour but when he discovered that some people had to be back to their ship at 4 while the rest of us did not have to get back until 6, asked us if we wanted a few extra hours at Atlantis while he took the first group back to their ship. We tipped him $30 for three people. Well deserved.

98% of the time........yes.......I can only think of one tour that was pretty bad and a rip off.........we didn't tip then.......but usually always tip....most drivers and guides are very knowledgable and helpful.
