my very first cruise i got seasick on the first night out and my husband went and got me dramamine which made me skip dinner and go right to bed. i woke up about midnight and was very disappointed to find i had missed dinner. i had no idea there were other places to eat. first cruise, no research on it, celebrity millenium and i was starving. the next day someone says why didn't you order room service? i felt like the biggest idiot because i didn't even know it existed.

so if you order room service, you tip the person bringing it to you right then and there and not at the end of the cruise like all the others? in cash?

I don't like room service but I think my teens want to try it once or twice on our upcoming cruise and I need to make sure they know how to appropriately tip

Yes, you tip in cash when the order is delivered. There are a number of service staff who deliver room service and you will rarely have the same one again.

Thank you, Char... it seems like something one would know but cruising is a little bit different than staying in hotels as you tip most staff at the end of the cruise and not every night...

Maybe we're wrong ... but even in hotels we always tip Room Service at the time our food is delivered ....

us too... I did not quite say what I meant - nonetheless, it is good to know that room service you tip now, other wait staff, you tip at the end of the cruise. Bartenders' tips are included in the tab, what about the people at the port that take your luggage? They get tipped, too, right? I was always taught that if someone handles your bag, they get a tip???

bartenders tips are included in the tab, however, if you are going to hang out at one particular bar a lot you can tip extra when you first go in. if you get good service anywhere it is always worth an extra buck. yes the baggage guys get a tip if they're taking it for you

My daddy always said, "Tip Early and Often!"

My DH is the same ... best to let folks know early that you DO tip!
