    question conc tipping

We cruised before with Royal Car, we could choose, give ourselves the tips to the staff or take it out of our account. Because we prefer to give it personal it was very handy that Royal Car provided envelopes.
Now we are going with Carnival and I read somewhere that it is not possible to choose, tipping goes directly out of your account.
    Is this true ?
The reason I ask this is because we never eat in the main restaurant so we would like to give their tips the staf of the self-service restaurant
Anyone knows if we could arrange this on board ??

    thanks

The Carnival tips are pooled, so no matter who you give them to they will all get their share. Doesn't matter if you never go to the dining room....your place at the table is reserved for you and no one else will be sitting there.

    Enjoy your cruise

you mean that if I give someone a tip in person, they give it away so they can all share it ??? if you mean that by pooling ( looked it up it is sharing no ?? )
than that is nice and very honest

last time with Royal Car, we received a phone call why we did not come to eat in the main dining room, due to a handicap this is not very convenient that is why we go to the self service restaurant.

they said that on our next cruise we should mention this so they could give our seats to someone else

that is why there are no reservations made for us in the main dining room and that is why I asked the tipping question

Frieda, you are not required to make reservations for the main dining room. That is automatic.....unless there is something I don't know about on Carnival.

Maybe one of our travel agents here will know more details about Carnival specifically than I do. We'll wait for them to clarify this question.

Yes, pooling does mean that they all share no matter where they serve you.

Yes, Carnival does automatically charge your tips in one lump sum. On a 7 day cruise, you'll see a charge for $70 dollars. As stated, the money is pooled. I'm posting a link to Carnivals's tipping policy for you.

Princess works the same way as Carnival...and we've found it very convenient. I think a major reason some lines now do autotipping is that in the past some people "stiff" the waitstaff. Even now, you can still remove the autotips but the desk will ask you for a reason (if it's because of poor service, they'll want to know asap so they can correct the issue and make you happy for the rest of your cruise).

I like this method as we don't have to gather up all the envelopes and our cash and stuff the envelopes on the last day, and then make sure we catch everyone, including the kids' counselors.

The purser's desk will have envelopes available if you want to tip more than the autotip. This extra money does not get pooled and stays with your crew member. He or she will have to write down your cabin number and then turn it in to the supervisor who then makes sure you didn't remove the autotip. If you didn't, the money goes back to the crew member. If fact, if you tip extra, just let your cabin steward or wait staff know this and watch the smile on their face.

Carnival's Auto-Tip is divided among the dining room people, your room steward, the buffet people, and all the other people who take care of service and food.

You can give the people who gave you great service extra if you'd like to and they can keep it, but only if you leave the Auto-Tip on your sail 'n sign account.

I like this system better than having to track them down on the last night, like you have to do on RCI.

Janice, why do you have to track anyone down on RCI? You have the option of putting the tips on your shipboard account...or not. If you choose to do this, the service people know before the last night and you don't even have to give the vouchers out should you not see them then. True, it's not automatic, but both RCI and Celebrity have this "option" and you have to fill out the form to have it done this way.

I learned a lot conc tipping now
thank you all for your help
We did not have any problems with Royal Car. conc the last night envelope thing
and I must say, for us, we find it more personal and maybe "real" to give the tipping directly to the staff, it gave us also a very pleasant feeling, hope you understand what I mean
that is why we prefer to give it ourselves and appreciate you can choose with Royal Car.

but now I know everytihing is pooled ( I learned a new word ) so it is ok for us
    thanks for the link

    have a nice day
