Thread: Tipping for porters AFTER te cruise...

As many cruises as I have been on, I've never used a porter to haul my luggage through customs.

I know the general rule is to tip them $1-$2 or more per bag at embarkation, but it seems like they provide a lot more service when used at disembarkation.

What is the general rule for tipping the porters at disembarkation?

Bill, I agree. Those porters really work their behinds off. We always give $2 per bag or if we have 4 big ones, we give a $10.

We always tip $2 per bag to the porters - we take 4 big suitcases each cruise. No way could we handle them ourselves.

So the tip is the same going or returning?

Yep--pretty much a standard rate. We manage our own bags, so we haven't used the porters after the cruise, but if we did, I'd tip $2 per bag.

Depends on how quickly you need a porter and what you want him to do AFTER the cruise.

When parked at the cruise terminal parking lot, we've always been able to get a porter QUICKLY to take our luggage all the way to the car in the garage/lot for us.

Waving a $20 bill attracts attention. Then, go from there ... depending on what you want....
