Yes, Neal, it is different. The Butler (or his assistant if he's not on duty) will deliver all room service, including dinner course by course. You do not tip him extra for room service. However, if you have made extra requests and had room service throughout the cruise you could tip a bit extra in his envelope.
Now that RCL is charging a fee for room service between the hours of midnight and 5am, I wonder if some people will feel different about tipping during those hours.
Althoughit's unlikely that I would be awake and ordering something to eat during the middle of the night, I think I would probably still tip cash if I were to order then.

That same thought crossed my mind when I read the title of this thread. DH and I are quite often up at that hour (we tend to close the casino). On Carnival it is not a problem, as we usually grab a slice of pizza and beverage on the way back to the cabin.
I can see where it would be an issue on RCCL, since many of their ships do not offer 24 hour pizza (or any other 24 hour food venue). If I am going to pay $3.95 to have room service delivered, it would really bother me to tip the delivery person. However, I know if I don't they would not get very much (RCCL has said that $1.50 of the $3.95 will go to the delivery person). If I sail on RCCL again, and it's not a Voyager or Freedom class ship (24 hour food available in Promenade, I think), I will probably plan ahead and bring some goodies back from the buffet earlier in the day for late night snacking.
