We have signed up for a short walking tour of the city and a stop at the Absolut Ice Bar....(Why should this surprise you? ) We like to learn about other cultures through meeting its residents at their restuarants and bars....

Again, after this tour, it leaves us near the city center where we can take off on our own and enjoy the rest of the day at our own pace.

I am one of those that could be described as being a tad intimidated by taking off on our immediately. This is why we've concentrated on taking short walking tours of the cities first - just so we can get a "lay of the land." Then, the tours tend to give you the option of returning to the ship with the guide, or going off on your own.

Here's a couple of links about the Ice Bar. I understand it's a very "touristy" thing to do but fun nonetheless!

I think you might find these fun to look at...

OK, we made it back. My review of Stockholm? One of our favorite ports.

We could have spent a few days here and would seriously consider traveling back there just to visit! Great old town surrounded by a clean and lively modern city! We had an
"Absolut" ball here! (pardon the pun, I couldn't resist.!)

The people were very friendly and compared to other countries (Denmark and Norway) was priced just right!

Great, now I am really looking forward to Stockholm. I hear the sailing through the archipelego is amazing.

Glad to hear that the prices are reasonable!

HOnestly Alisa...you'll be able to do any of these countries on your own, without tours....without tourbuses....without a tour group who wants to do 20,000 different things.

yeah in order to save money, i gotta keep that in mind.

i think that tallinn and stockholm i want to do on my own. probably buy the stockholm card. in tallinn walk around on my own.

of course you can't do st. pete's on your own though

and i probably could do berlin on my own, but with a 3 hour train ride each way, i dont want to risk not seeing anything or missing the ship

Pick and choose Alisa...that's the smartest thing you can do...if you have to travel 3 hours to see a city, then you may want to use a ship excursion...and obviously St. Petersburg, it'll be wisest to use a private tour...but all the other stops? Go it alone....when you share with your tablemates what you did/saw versus them (who probably used an excursion), you'll see how much more of the country you got to appreciate doing it on your own.

Except in my case my tablemates will be my travel companions, all of whom are asking me to arrange the shore excursions or do-it-yourself for them....

not too smart considering i hate making decisions!

Then I guess you better socialize with a lot of other people on this trip!
