Been to Dominica & St Thomas

Make sure you take your swimsuit if you take an excurision to the Emerlad Pool on Dominica. It's said that if you swim in it it has healing powers. There is also a tree there that it's roots above ground look like men's ....oh how to say this and keep it clean....... I know take a look at the pic of the tree.

We were in Dominica last year and had an excursion in the rain forest. We swam in the Layou river and soaked in the hot springs. It was really a memorable trip...we still talk about it!!

Well, it is plain that that is a male tree, for sure!

Advertising, too...

Has anyone been? I know there are a lot of Sun Lovers out there...I'd like to hear more!

The ports are:
Curacao
Isla Margarita
Barbados
Dominica
St. Thomas
Princess Cays
flsunbaked .... We love these ports -- great for sun lovers!
(Doninica is the only one that is not a beach sort of place but does offer other things.)

Isla Margarita has been a long time favorite of ours! Fell in love with that port even when it was very new and there was almost nothing there. On the ports part of this board there's a thread: "Love Isla da Margarita" that you might want to read. Now, let's see if I can figure out how to pull the site for you ....

http://www.cruiselineforums.com/forum/caribbean/6104-love-isla-de-margarita.html

In Curacao a good place (if you want to do your own thing) is the Kontiki Beach Club at Mambo Beach (next to the Seaquarium). Sorry, I don't have a site but it is about a $16 taxi ride from the dock and it cost $5 pp to use the facility ... includes beach chairs, etc. BEAUTIFUL place!

Hope this helps a little.

Isla Margarita was a real climactic shock to the system for someone coming from the snow and -20 temperatures! The heat and humidity was a little difficult to deal with at first and we learned to stroll slowly rather than rush around in order to conserve energy and of course to always have a water bottle with us. I have no idea why it never occurred to us (duh! ) that there was a reason for the old custom of siesta during the hot part of the day!

Cool

Kallen .... Great comment! It really is ALWAYS quite warm there!
We've normally been there in January and, as you noted, it's very HOT!
(This comes from someone from SC who is very use to our summers here.)

Thanks, LuLu and Kallen! Love the comments about Isla Margarita!

We will sail on the Coral thru the Panama in 2007.....and I'll bet this cruise on the Sun will be the one for 2008!

Just loved every other stop on the cruise and would love to do it all over again. We had private tours on Barbados, Dominica and St. Thomas and would definitely do those again as the tour operators were great and the prices couldn't have been better. As a plus, we avoided the crowds since our private vans could do things faster than Princess could!
I was on the trip with Kallen on the Dawn and she is right we did have a blast.
In Barbados we booked the Best Of Barbados with Glory Tours, excellent tour especially for the money, you basically had an extremely full day and still made it back to the ship with time to spare. This tour cost $95.00 per person and that included all entrance fees to the Harrison's Caves, Wildlife Reserve, lunch and snorkelling.
In Dominica we booked Reyno Tours and again saw most of the island with this tour. This tour was $30.00 per person.
In St. Thomas we booked with Godfrey Tours but I missed this one because I was sick. I hear it was good though. This was $20.00 per person.
On the Isla of Margarita we walked out to the pier taxi parking and got a taxi that took us to a National Park, geez I forget the name, but for $15.00 (there and back per person) we had a great tour of the island. We also paid $5.00 per person for a one hour boat ride through the Mangroves in the park, we got to see a live seahorse that the Captain of the ship found and lots of other great stuff. The pier shopping is very good here and there is a wonderful beach within walking distance of the pier.
This was an awesome trip with great ports. I would highly recommend it and book ahead with the independents that I have mentioned.
