Star Princess - real deal?

Does the ship totally stink like some are saying, or not? I can't be sure who to believe. I usually find a bad smell at some time during any cruise.

The Star is my favorite and I have sailed her 3 times!! I have never smelled a stink anywhere, she is very clean, the crew is right on top of it all the time!!

My Signature Some people try to turn back their odometers. Not me! I want people to know why I look this way. I've traveled a long way, and some of the roads weren't paved.

I have never heard of this being a problem. I was only on the Star for about 5 hours...but there was no smell that I noticed.

I went searching for more information on the "stink" problem...there is a report on another forum about it...so, not sure what to say....I am sailing on the Star in January....I will be able to find out first hand...hopefully it won't stink...

My wife and I just returned on Dec 23rd from our honeymoon - a long ,stinky week aboard the Star Princess. I can say without a doubt that there is an issue with a smell on the outside decks and balconies of the ship. To put it bluntly, it smells like human waste. It wasn't a constant issue, but we could depend on smelling it at least once every time we went on deck - and those times became more and more scarce the later into the trip it became. It really put a damper on our morning coffee on the balcony and cut down on the time we could spend in the sun aboard ship.

We generally noticed it the most when we were on the upper decks and it depended on which way the wind was blowing at the time. I couldn't tell exactly where it was coming from, but there was always a good chance we'd smell human poop when we took a trip outside.

Any updates on this? Has anyone else had a similar experience?

I have heard about this happening on other ships but not happening out on deck but in the hallways.

Very strange that the smell would also be in the open areas.
I am quite smell sensitive and that would have really bothered me. We had a smell of diesel fuel constantly on our balcony on the Statendam one cruise, and I vowed that was my first and last trip on that ship!

I loved cruising the Star but it was brand new when we took our trip, hope they solve the mystery soon. The Princess cruise line is still my favorite, hope this didn't put you off cruising, its the best way to take a vacation.
