HAL Shore Excursion in St. Thomas

Hello from a cruisin' newbie. My husband and I will be celebrating his 50th birthday by cruising on the HAL Zuiderdam in April. I've been reading these posts for over a month now, and this is my first post. I have to say, you guys/gals are a WEALTH of information!

2 questions: First, has anyone ever done HAL excursion "Atlantis Sub expedition" in St. Thomas? It sounds great, but for $99 each, I would appreciate some input. I want to purchase at least one shore excursion as part of hubby's b-day gift. It sounds great from HAL's description. Does anyone know if it is available as a non-HAL booked tour? I'm kinda on the fence about whether to pre-book shore tours or take my chances once we get into ports.

2nd, this is a trivial question, but one I can not find the answer to anywhere. Do we need to bring soap and shampoo on the Zuiderdam? I've read several posts on packing lists, and many list these 2 items. My TA wasn't sure. Don't cruise ships provide such things, as a hotel would? I appreciate any info you more experienced folk can provide!!

Hi Wispud,

Welcome.

You do not have to bring soap or shampoo. The products are very good. The shampoo is suppose to contain conditioner but I would advise you to bring your own conditioner. You hair can get very dryed out in the Caribbean.

I always bring my shampoo and conditiner anyway because I like a certain brand. Hair dryer are in all cabins, so no need to bring one.

Sorry I can't answer much about the sub. Here is a link you should look at. The price is cheaper, but not by much. If you do it on your own you would have to pay cab fare.
