Godfrey Tours ~ St. Thomas

Just back from our Caribbean Princess cruise to St. Thomas / St. Maarten! We sailed with our DS and DIL so there were 4 of us.

In St. Thomas we toured the island with Godfrey. He does an all-day tour for the incredible price of $20 a person!! He met us at the ship and we boarded an open-air tour bus of sorts. Initially, it was just the 4 of us, as the others were coming off another ship that had just docked. He dropped us off at the main shopping area while he went back to get everyone else. That way we had more time instead of just sitting there waiting, which was great! When everyone arrived we had a total of 15 people.

The shopping area in St. Thomas is lovely and clean. There is no pressure to buy from people approaching you on the street....and no one begging for money. The only people who try to get your attention are the taxi drivers. If you just say "We already have one!" they back off and leave you alone

We stopped by Diamonds International and got some wonderful prices on diamond tennis bracelets and rings. We'd done our homework before cruising, so we knew what we were buying. We got some AWESOME Bling! Then we walked down to the Harley Shop for t-shirts. On the way back to meet Godfrey, we stopped in several shops along the way and wandered some of the lovely alley ways that connect the 2 main shopping streets. So pretty, with cobblestones & hanging baskets of flowers. We also stopped in a local taco shop for a lunch of tacos, nachos, burritos and MANGO daiquiries. YUM!

After meeting Godfrey & the rest of our group at the Square, we proceeded up the hills, passing some of the beautiful homes on the island and stopping at vistas to take pictures along the way to the top. The altitude increases rapidly and kinda makes your head swim as you adjust! The roads are narrow and winding....sometimes Godfrey had to do a 3-point turn just to get around the curve!! When we got to the top, we stopped for banana daiquiries and looked our over a breathtaking view of several beaches and the golf course.

Godfrey then asked us which beach we all wanted to go to and we voted on Sapphire Beach. So off we went! We spent about 2 hours swimming and floating at this pretty, pretty beach.....wonderful views and peaceful surf. Godfrey waited for us....and when we all met back at the tour vehicle, off we went around the rest of the island...through some of the other business and residential areas. God loves his island and is a wealth of information! He has facts and figures about eveything, so we really learned a lot about St. Thomas! It gave us a good perspective on the island and enables us to make future decisions about what we'd like to do the next time we cruise there.

We arrived back at the dock in plenty of time to board without a rush.

We definitely enjoyed our day with Godfrey, and would encourage anyone who's never visited St. Thomas to see the island with him!

Here's his email address...he's really good at answering you right away! He must never sleep! godfrey@godfreytoursvi.com

Godfrey was the best deal of our cruise! If you are lucky, you'll get "the" Godfrey for your tour guide. (see him in photo)
Great review, Jill!

We took the Godfrey tour back in March. Can't beat the price of $20.00 each for an all day event. You can book a tour at his web site. www.godfreytoursvi.com
He knows the island very well even though he is not a native. Does what you want, will run an errand if you need, while you are at the beach (one of three choices).
I will book it again the next time I am in St Thomas.

Everyone,
Thanks a gazillion!
We decided not to use the ships' excursions, and this fits the bill of what we want. I would rather do this than just grab a cab back and forth, and he looks like a great tourguide. I emailed him thru his site.

Another vote for Godfrey.

He picked us up on time, and really got a good tour, even though this was probably at least our 6th time there!

We also tipped him well. It was worth the time.

I love St. Toooomasssss.

Thank you to all who suggested him.
Quick question....
Were you in a group or did you pay the extra for a private tour? If you are in a group is the beach decided by a vote, or does he actually make stops at all of them and swing back to pick folks up????

No group. He'll just group you with who's made plans with him that day. We were only three, and were assembled with a bunch of other people.

Godfrey will make beach recommendations based on conditions that day. He was steering us all to Coki, and away from Megans Bay, being they charge. I spoke up and staed i wanted to go to Megans Bay. Then others spoke up. We all wanted to go to the three different beaches, so he dropped us of at each of our stops, even brought a couple back to the ship that didn't want to go to the beach, and then came back at the pre determined time to pick us up. We were first off, first on, and we stopped at the other two places to pick the others up.

He was quite accomodating.

BIG THUMBS UP!!!!! Way up, for Godfrey tours. Best tour we took all week in many ways. We had 3 hours of shopping (yes he can make suggestions) followed by 2 hours of touring and then 2 hours of beach time at your choice of 3 beaches. Godfrey was wonderful. Request his group specifically, and you will get him. That's what we did.

p.s. Go to Coki beach, rent the snorkel for $5, and you also get a dog biscut. Feed the tropical fish...dozens of them swarm to eat from your hand. Take an underwater camera.
