Helicopter tour in St. Thomas

Has anyone done this tour? Thinking about it because DS14 may never get the opportunity to do something like this ever again (I did it in Hawaii when I was 13). The height/weight cut off is 6'4" and 220 lbs. He's 6'2"/175 already.

LOL! DBF can't do it either (although he's happy to weigh too much because as he says, "You can call me FAT, but you can't call me CHICKEN!").

I'm not particuarly thrilled with the whole flying in a small craft thing, or heights, but I remember how cool it was when me and my dad did it in Hawaii, and I'd like DS to have that memory too. Besides, I think it's only about a half hour in the air.

St. Thomas Helicopter Tour: Enjoy a bird's-eye view of the beauty of the Virgin Islands and experience the thrill of helicopter flying. You'll travel via taxi van to a private heliport at the edge of town. During your flight, you'll see all of the beaches along the south side of St. Thomas before crossing over to the island of St. John. See Cruz Bay and Caneel Bay from a soaring new perspective. Catch a glimpse of the British Virgin Islands before the beautiful North Shore of St. Thomas beckons. See Coki Beach and beautiful Magen's Bay just before flying over historic Drake's Seat and Louisenhoj Castle. From there, you'll descend back over St. Thomas harbor before landing. This tour includes professional narration on stereo headsets.

I can't personally recomment this tour, but it's a place to start looking!

It's funny -- I've posted this question in several places, but no one seems to know anything about it. I guess I'll wait and see what happens when we get onboard, since I can't book it now -- too close.

That site pretty much says the same as RCI's excursion page. Thanks though...maybe I'll google it and see what I come up with!

I'm back! The helicopter tour was amazing. I would spend the cash to do that again in a heartbeat. I'll post pics of it later.

Can you tell us more? How long was it? How many to a helicopter........that type of thing.

Did they meet you at the pier?

I can give lots more details, but I'm work, so I have to be sort of brief -- first day back and all. This working garbage is really interfering with life!

They met us at the pier. It was about a 15 minute ride to the airport in an open air taxi. We were briefed on what we would see and then driven by van for about 20 seconds down the runway to the SMALL helicopter. There were 6 of us, plus the pilot. Five sat in the back, one up front with the pilot.

We flew over various areas of St. Thomas, St. John, Tortola -- close enough to land in some instances that my son said he thought the propeller would weedwhack the vegetation.

We were airborne for about 20-25 minutes. The pilot was great, provided a running commentary of stuff, cracking jokes about all the passengers being able to swim, "drug boats" we were flying over, etc.

We also saw the island the Alan Alda owns but has not developed, as well as an island that is for sale for $18 million, if anyone is interested.

Afterwards, we had the chance to have our pics taken with the helicopter and pilot before being dropped off either in town or back at the ship.

It was $338 for 2 of us and worth every cent.

I wasn't scared at all and I'm not fond of heights. It was amazing.
