Cool Can you recommend a great Tour Operator?

We will be there in Nov and have been before and loved it. We would like to see some of the more off the beaten path gems of the island as well as some beach and shopping time. Can anyone recommend a great tour operator first hand that would be able to handle a party of six for a day like this?

We have been to St. Thomas several times and have used Godfrey to tour the island, go to the beach and go shopping. I have also purchased excursions from him for clients. So far, everyone has been more than pleased with his service. I have added a link to his website for you. Also, IMHO the best beach in St. Thomas is Sapphire Beach, if you've never been there. They don't have a bar or restaurant, but they do have clean restrooms, a convenience store and plenty of sun and shade. Hope this helps.

You really don't need a "tour operator" in St. Thomas to see the sites and get around. There are hundreds of taxis readily available who will take you wherever you want to go. You can negotiate prices and times.

We will go outside the gated area of the pier to get a taxi, because those inside have to pay a fee to be there and they have to pass along that cost to you. Those outside the gated area or those downtown don't have to pay that fee resulting in less cost to you.

We'll then negotiate a price for what we want to do and away we go. We usually have them take us downtown for some shopping in the morning before it gets hot. Then have them take us back to the ship to drop off our stuff, change clothes, and have some lunch before heading out to do some sightseeing and spend some time at the beach. We've always gotten great drivers and always pay less than any shore excursions or organized tours.

Thanks Pete - we are quite the adventurous type and do like to do things on our own sometimes - this sounds great. Do you think that a taxi for the day would cost us more than $35 per day?

The last time we were there, we negotiated a rate of $20 per person for the day. From what my clients have told me this may have gone up to $25, but it does depend on your ability to negotiate and the number of people in your party.

We did St. Thomas Tours Virgin Islands Excursions Guide. and Papa Bear. It looks to have went up a little, but we paid $25 last year and even at $35 it's a bargain. He's a great guy, takes you all over the island. We happened to be on the Pearl with the Oasis of the Seas when it was on it's inaugural and the port was packed. He took us to Sapphire Beach which I HIGHLY recommend. There was a waitress taking orders on the beach and while not the cheapest day where food was concerned, it was very nice on the beach. We rented chairs there, snorkeled some and just enjoyed the sound of the water. Very picturesque!
