New Tour being given in ST Thomas from Princess

    Pirates! Harbor Tour & Shopping

Cruise the picturesque St. Thomas harbor on a pirate-themed cruise to all three shopping areas — downtown Charlotte Amalie, Havensight Mall, and Crown Bay.

Board your pirate ship at any of the locations and be prepared to follow the Captain’s orders or you may be ordered to walk the plank. St. Thomas was home to some of the most ruthless and infamous swashbucklers to ever sail the seas. Blackbeard, Calico Jack, Anne Bonnie, Henry Morgan and others frequently traded their captured treasures on the shores of St. Thomas. Now, hear the history of these real life pirates as told by their distant relatives. Sons and daughters, twelve and thirteen generations removed, have returned to these same waters to entertain you as you sail between the three shopping areas — Havensight, Charlotte Amalie and Crown Bay. Hop off, shop, and hop back on a different boat to hear the history of another pirate. Your ticket is valid all day while you are in port.

Our these the areas I want to shop in?????

I loved where we went last time, but the ship was docked in a different place than it will this time so I am all turned around. The ship gave a shopping talk and we got a coupon book for pearls and to this day I still love them and want to buy more from the same shop. Wish I could remember which one and what the shopping area was called. It was about a 4 minute drive from the ship but all the other cruise ships were far across the bay if I remember correctly.

What do you think of this tour???

Gotta love a new gimic for the tourists, but it could be good for those who want a nice boat ride. Personally I would suggest the following:

If you Dock at Havensight- Get off the ship and take a taxi to town. About a 10 minute ride that will let you off either by Emancipation Park (Marketplace, Post Office are here), or Downtown Waterfront ( Near AH Riise Alley), or Midtown along the waterfront (Green House Rest. Palm Passage & Royal Dane Mall) walk around and do your shopping. Once tired go back to the ship and stop in Havensight if you want a change of scenery, or buy that item you needed time to "think about". All the same stores are at Havensight that are in town. They carry the same items and the prices are identical.

If you dock at Crown Bay: Take a taxi to down as above and do your shopping. Right now I wouldn't rely on Crown Bay as a "think about it" option. Only a few stores found in town have a location there (Bernard Passman, Royal Caribbean, AH Riise, Diamonds International, Aseck) If those stores are one where you were thinking about the item then I guess that would be ok, but Crown Bay just doesn't have the same size that Havensight does to have and thus alot of the same stores you see in town are not there.

Why I wouldn't just shop at Havensight... St. Thomas is a pretty and diverse Island and the people, if given the chance, are friendly. I know some people get offended by all the people asking if you need a taxi while in town, or those trying to get you to come into the store. The Main Street Barkers are part of the rhythm of Charlotte Amalie. Believe me they won't bite. A polite "No Thank You" is often that is all that is needed. Shopping at Havensight, while it will complete your shopping needs, deprives you of the experience of shopping in the Shopping Capital of the Caribbean. Look at it as an experience, an adventure, and remember you're on vacation. Take it easy, don't get frazzled and enjoy the moment.

I am guessing this tour will cost at least $50 a person $100 a couple. For comparison here some prices:

Havensight to Town $5 each person each way, 2 people round trip -$20

Crown Bay to Town - Same as above

Havensight to Crown Bay approx $7 each person each way,2 people round Trip $28

For two people to go from Havensight to Town to Crown Bay Back to Havensight for a will cost approx.$34

A big savings over the ship price.

The price for the Pirate Shopping Tour is $19 dollars, sorry I thought I posted it. I did but I posted it under the heading St Thomas map., which is a great map. It shows the three shopping areas as REAL close together, I was delusional thinking they were on different sides of the Island. I was hoping one of them were close to Megans bay which I didn't get to see on my last trip to St Thomas.NOT Oh well for the price this tour is still great, but I'm wondering how much it will be for a taxi to Megan's Bay, any clue?

Sorry didn't see the price. For $19 a person it is still cheaper to do it via taxi, but not by much. Personally unless I docked at Crown Bay, I don't see any real reason to go there.

Thanks, I just saw pics and I believe you. What's nice about this tour is that the $19 covers ALL day, you can go and come as you please the whole time you are in port. They only give you a time in the morning so as not to have everyone trying to leave at the same time.

Yesterday, our shore excursions became available for our Emerald Princess in January so I checked out the excursion times:

There are excursions leaving every 15 minutes beginning at 9:00 AM thru 11:15 AM.

It seems like a good deal for any who wish to spend all day shopping in various places....
