Smile Great bargains in St. THomas

I personally found there are more deals on St. Thomas than other islands, although there are pretty much the same jewelry stores in all the islands. what you want to look out for are the smaller stores. A fellow cruiser took me to where they were going in Main Street as they told me that place was the ideal place for mid level to upper level jewelry for bargain prices. I got a great deal on a diamond watch and some local 14k jewelry a while back when I was cruising in St. Thomas a year ago. I think the name of the store was Seven Wonders.

    welcome to clf!!

i always check our sales at home -- which are a lot better than in the islands

plus if something goes wrong with the watch -- i can return it to the store personally

As with anything else, yes, it's buyer beware. And I agree with most about staying away from some of the stores. And don't shop near the cruise pier - you get better deals downtown and they'll often negotiate the price with you.

I've bought jewelry, a Citizen scuba diving watch, a camera, and binoculars there - all much better pricing than back home. For example, I once walked off the ship and went into the Royal Caribbean store (absolutely no connection with Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines) and talked to the guy about a camera. He gave me what I thought was a good price of $299. I went back on the ship, up to the computer area, surfed online for the same camera, and couldn't find it anywhere for less than $399. Walked back off the ship and immediately bought it from him. It was brand new in an unopened box and I've had it for about 4 years without any problems.

I did the same thing with my Citizen dive watch and saved $125 over the cheapest price I could find it for online.

So yes, you can get some good deals, but you need to know what you're buying and what the going rate is. They basically sell gold jewelry by the ounce and prices will differ slightly from one store to the next.
