We thought it was good for swimming and snorkeling the day we were there. I hear that if the wind is from the east it can be rough. One great thing about St. Maarten is that you have many choices! We haven't been to Mullet. Maybe it is even better! I am leaning towards going to a couple of beaches. Might want to go and watch the jets come in over at the beach whose name I can't remember! Maho?

Have a great time, wherever you decide to go!

deb1113 .... We'll be on a cruise the same time as you (1/21) and will also be going to St.Maarten! Just different ship/different trip!

We've been to Great Bay Beach many times ... especially when Everyt'ing Cool was still open! We call it the town beach. It's more of what we think of as a regular beach with some wave action;however, the water is very blue. Have always enjoyed our times there!

Considering what you want to do -- Go to a beach and shop -- this might work out great for you!
Just take the "Water Taxi" ($5 pp for use ALL day ... they'll give you a wrist band) and you'll be right in the MAIN shopping area and directly on Great Bay Beach (you'll want to get off at the town pier, not the marina). No problem renting chairs/umbrellas on the beach!

Since we plan to spend ALL DAY at the beach this cruise stop, we'll be going to Orient Beach! (Very pretty place!)

Whatever you decide ... please do let us know how you liked it when you return!
