Thread: Airport/Orient Beach

Who all has gone to Orient Beach just for the view when a plane comes in for a landing? Also has anyone experienced the holding onto a fence for dear life when a plane takes off?

I saw a couple of nights ago a show called Most Extreme Airports and the locals go and hang onto the fence when a plane takes off and it can literately push you backward. Thinking I may want to do this in December for a trill excursion. LOL

Just so you know, the airport is actually on the Dutch side of the island and Orient Beach is on the other side of the island on the French side.

The beach you're referring to is Maho Beach. And while the planes fly low over the beach on approach and aren't too far away from the beach on take-off, people do love to exaggerate. The fence use to be closer years ago, but has since been moved. It is something to see and a great place to take pictures, but if I want to spend a nice day at the beach, this is not necessary the place I'd like to go as there are other nicer, quieter beaches to enjoy.

Pete is right, we have been to Orient Bay and no planes, however if your ship has the 30 or 40 dollar beach bash try it out (goes to Orient). Beautiful views, lounge chair, private area and of course included unlimited rum punch!

When then the program was wrong. They said Orient Beach. LOL Thanks guys.

BTW I hate the beach. I'm not a beach person or a Sun worshiper. Never been to a "private island" either in all my 7 cruises. I'll most likely get off the ship walk around a bit then head back to the ship when we get to Princess Cays. The planes are the only reason to go on St Maarten. LOL
