My DH and I agree that it's our very favorite Caribbean Island ... probably, our favorite place on earth to be!
Just thinking of being there makes us HAPPY!

I love St Maarten not only because it home but it's home of whom ever would like to adjust to a lay back smell the roses kinda lifestyle. with such a unique Island you get a unique people we are the home of over 104 different nationalities. SOMETHING GOTTA BE GOOD HERE
Are you planning to visit St Maarten/Saint Martin make sure you are able to say you’ve seen it all & done it all with Perla of Preferred Tours & Transfers St Maarten. For your private and Semi private Tours with shopping & beach stops http://www.preferredtoursstmaarten.com/index.html
I like St. Maarten so much that I have gotten a part time job there.
My job is to sit at one of the bars along the beach and drink beer so that everyone thinks that I am a tourist. In reality my job is to watch the ships and make sure that no one steals our's while The Boss (Rose) is shopping.
This is our favorite island as well. So many things to do there. We have a timeshare in Simpson Bay. You can walk to about 30 restaurants, & the Dolphin casino. Yea, $2.00 Black Jack tables. I love the town. Our favorite place to eat is Taloula Mangos on the waterfront. The beach in town is really nice. St.Maarten has the best prices in the Caribbean. It's a great place to stay.

I have been to St. Maarten/Martin several times on cruises and when I was younger spent over 2 weeks sailing around the island and its neighbors. Like all places it has it's good points and it's bad points. I am not a fan of shopping in Philipsburg since most of the same shops are also on St.Thomas and they all seem to sell the same stuff.
I am fan of sailing and we got a chance to so the America's Cup Challenge when were there on our honeymoon cruise stop. Thye split you up in teams and we were lucky to sail on Stars and Stripes. That was definately a highlight of our trip.
I also like the water taxi from the cruise peir to downtown in Philipsburg. The $5 roundtrip is definately worth it, especially if you do it more than once in a day.
Marigot is really nice and definately has a "French flavor" I remember walking around there late at night as a teenager and not really having to worry about my safety.
St. Maarten/Martin is a great place, but if we don't stop there on my next trip I won't be disappointed. If we do, no problem I am sure we can find things to occupy our time
