I had the chance to visit St. Lucia while on my cruise onboard Ruby Princess in November 2009. The following is what I wrote in my Trip Report...
We hooked up with a Private Tour by Herod called Land & Sea Safari Tour. We met Herod at the exit of the main shopping complex at the Port. There were 23 of us on the tour and we were separated into 2 vans, with 10 people each, and 1 car for the additional 3 people. After figuring out which people were going into which vehicle we were off on our driving tour of Castries, the Capital of St. Lucia. We stopped by the "Renowned Saaman Tree (which is reportedly more than 400 years old), Derek Walcott Square and the St. Lucia War Memorial among other sites that Herod pointed out while driving through the City. We made our way away from the City and stopped for photos along the way. This is a very intensive tour and it is very hard to retain everything you've seen afterwards! Thank goodness for cameras!![]()
We stopped by a banana plantation where we were able to sample the local bananas, which were very good. At one scenic stop the tour guides handed out fresh creole bread. It was a little dry, but tasty. We drove through 2 fishing villages, and Soufriere (the first Capital of St. Lucia) before heading to to the coast to board our boats to head to the beach for a swim or snorkel. We loaded back on the boats to head back to where the vans were to go off to lunch. Lunch, we found out, would be at Herod's parents home. The food was good and Herod had mentioned banana ketchup and banana hot sauce. I tried some of the banana hot sauce and St. Lucian's like their hot sauce, hot, hot, hot!If you like hot sauce and go to St. Lucia, make sure to get some.
After lunch we headed off to Cold Falls for pictures and the Sulphur Springs for the lovely smellI find these fascinating, but they sure do stink! We then headed back to the boats for a coastal boat ride back to the port area, but not before stopping by a bat cave. It was a very long day and this tour covers a lot of the island, you see so much though, that it's hard to remember all you've seen!
I would recommend this tour![]()
