Smile St.Lucia: REDUIT BEACH - Report

    Reduit Beach ... On-Our-Own

On past port stops in St. Lucia over the years we've done a variety of excursions. For the last two stops there we have just wanted to go to the beach. This time, like before, was a GREAT day!

No problem finding a taxi driver to take us to Reduit Beach and drop us off at Spinnaker's Beach Bar & Restaurant for $22 Roundtrip. (We gave him $30 when he returned us to the ship.)

Rented two chairs and an umbrella for $15. While the water was certainly Caribbean BLUE and quite chean (no debris), it was a bit cloudy from the waves stirring the sand. Nice sandy beach and ocean floor. No need for water shoes. Really enjoyed our time at the beach!

The beach bar part of Spinnaker's was perfect -- yummy drinks! Would love to be there for Evening Fun sometimes....

Note: It has only taken us 20 minutes each time ... BUT ... our taxi driver told us it could sometimes be 30 minutes, depending on traffic ....

Our visits to Reduit Beach On-Our-Own have been the BEST times we have even had in St.Lucia!!!!

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask.

I would love to go to Reduit beach, but we plan to take a catamaran trip and I don't think there will be time for both.

By the way, thanks for the frus!!!!

I just wrote everything down -- HAL doesn't anything right now that we are interested at this port for our up-coming cruise.

Joe doesn't like to venture out on his own but maybe this can I can talk him into it.

How long did you stay at the beach?

What time did you leave the ship?

What time did you return to the ship?

How did you convince your taxi driver that you wouldn't pay him until you returned to the ship?

About the bar: what kind of food can you purchase? What kind of drinks can you buy? We are not fancy foo-foo drinkers - we like simple things -- for me -- vodka on the rocks -- Joe likes local beers.

We actually prefer to take a ship's excursion too. This time, we had booked (thru Princess) "A Day at Jungle Reef Resort". It was cancelled AT THE PIER! Everyone was standing around waiting when we were informed the excursion had been cancelled due to labor disputes with the resort employees!

Fortunately, last year, we had been to Reduit Beach on our own so we just did it again and did have a very good day....

Several years ago we took that "Northern Highllights & Beach" excursion offered by HAL with my aunt and uncle who have some minor mobility problems. The beach part was to a hotel at Reduit Beach. Because we were only at the beach an hour and a half, it didn't seem worth the effort to rent chairs and get wet. Also, it was a rather windy day and the surf was QUITE rough! We did enjoy sitting around on the deck in the hotel's beach bar area which overlooked the ocean.

The way back , thankfully, was directly to the cruise pier with no "Northern Highlights" (not bad, just didn't want to see them again). So on our next port stop there, we felt comfortable taking a taxi directly to Reduit Beach on our own because we had done the drive before and knew we could always easily find another taxi if something happened to ours.

We left at around 10 AM. Our driver picked us up from the beach at 3:15 PM. We were back on the ship by 3:45 PM.

No Problem either time! My DH told the taxi driver we didn't want a scenic tour but would like to be taken DIRECTLY to Reduit Beach and picked back up at 3:15. The driver just quoted it to us as if it were a tour package and agreed we would pay when he returned us to the ship.

Spinnaker's is a regular restaurant with a full service bar. There are LOTS of other places at Reduit Beach. Even the hotel mentioned above could be an option.
KK .... Know you've been to Orient Beach and to Cane Garden Bay Beach (to name a couple). Reduit Beach is not as pretty as either of these and the surf is much less calm. It's a "beach-beach" and does tend to be crowded. It's still our favorite thing to do in St.Lucia!

    Hope this helps a bit....

St. Lucia is just an amazing island. Probably the prettiest one in my opinion.
The cruise into the bay near the Pitons to pick up cruisers who took the whole day trip was one of the most beautiful sights I can recall in the Caribbean!!

Where is Reduit Beach in relation to the pier.

If there is more than one ship in port will Reduit be rediculously crowded?

If I don't know the answer I'm fairly certain I can find it.

A bad day at sea is better than a good day at work.
