Soooo, with a vest, the diving won't be much deeper than the snorkeling? That's something to think about. I've wondered about the snuba. Do you suppose that the pressure would hurt your ears? When you free dive, does the pressure hurt your ears? How far down can you go?

I don't dive down deep enough to have the pressure. I just like to get a closer look at some of the fish. Sometimes the bottom is WAY farther down than you'd think. At Trunk Bay, I noticed a mask laying on the bottom. I thought I'd do the right thing and go get it. I did it but I was definetly out of air when I got back to the surface! I had no idea it was as deep as it was! BTW I had taken off the snorkel gear that time to free me up. If you want to snorkel without a vest, just don't go on one of the ship's excursions, go on one of the local ones, they don't require the vests. I also think if you were to snuba, you'd know when you were deep enough if your ears started bothering you and you'd come up a ways. I don't know how deep it has to be in order to feel the pressure.

I read on the snuba that you can go as far as 20 feet down, if you choose. They will allow you to stop when you get uncomfortable with the depth. But no where did I read about the pressure on the ears. Okay, now back to snorkeling. My DH has a mustache, & the only time he snorkeled he couldn't stop the salt water from entering the mask. Is there a secret to that? Is there an easy way to clear it out of your mask?

You need to get a mask that fits. I'm going to buy one before we go again. I just have a hard time getting a mask that fits me. I did find the better quality ones do, so I'm buying one and the snorkel. I'll rent the fins because they weigh alot and are big to be packing around. They let you go down 20 feet with snuba? That's too deep for me, I'd be scared of what I might run into. When you think about it, that's really not that deep.........but I'd want it to be crystal clear and light and if I saw something ugly, I want a quick way out!

Tell him to try putting vasoline on his mustache.

    I've heard this works.

To be fit tested for a resperator, you must be clean shaven.

What is a resperator? Is it used with snorkeling? Thanks for the info on the vaseline for the mustache. I'll tell him to try it. We found a jumbo size mask (he's a big guy) that I think will fit his face better. Also, we found "dry" snorkels. I think it'll make it easier to get our confidence up to do some shallow free diving. We're so excited over this cruise!

I bought a snorkel last summer that won't let air in if you go underwater or if a wave hits. It really works!
