There will likely be less than during the peak summer months.![]()

Not actually Reggie ... we've always cruised to Alaska in September (mid to end of the month) and have always been in port with others. In one port, 2 of the ships had to tender their guests in as the port already had it's max at the docks. In Ketchikan, as we pulled out another ship pulled in at the same time. I think they really try to work it out tho so that no ship if at all possible as to tender anyone for Ketchikan, Skagway, and Juneau.
I did bit of research and the following are cruising during the same time frame (some start before we leave ... some start during our cruise), but here's the other ships we "might" see as we share similar ports (not all are the same):
Princess: Diamond, Island, Coral, Sapphire, and Sea Princess
NCL: Norwegian Star & Pearl
Celebrity: Millenium and Mercury
HAL: Statendam, Zuiderdam, Volendam, Rydam
RCCL: Radiance of the Seas
I guess I've been spoiled sailing the first repo every year. There were ports that we were all by our lonesome, not another ship in sight.

You are sooooo right ... that is definitely unusual, but how awesome too. One big blessing with the September sailings is that the store keepers want to move the remaining merchandise. We've always seen good sales as a result even on everyday items like batteries, etc.
That is definitely a good point Mary. We should get some great bargains.![]()

In Skagway and Juneau, there is a company called The Alaskan T-shirt Company. When we were there they were doing 75% off deals on everything. They had beautiful jackets, t-shirts in all sizes, magnets, jewelry etc. I picked up batteries and cookies and expected them to be regular price --- the tourist stuff was marked 75% off. Well, they gave me sale price on it all.
I also got a Ulu knife that is handcarved antler. It is a true piece of art as well as a great kitchen tool. I got it at another store for 50% off. So yes, the deals will be there I'm sure and places should be willing to barter. They truly don't want to ship the things back home and their stores will be closed at the end of the month.
Ketchikan we didn't see the deals. Skagway was probably the best place for them.
Anything new on this front Mary?![]()

Hi Team... Mary our Researcher is always on her game. I was reading a review today on the Princess Golden as it is a possible Princess adventure to Hawaii in 2011. As you know the Golden was in dry dock this year and I was curious how folks have been enjoying her this year. One comment was when every port in Alaska in July there were always five ships in port. They were saying that every port and shop were so crowded. So fewer people and bargains sounds very good to me!!

I've always been in port with very few ships as I sailed early in the season. There were times we were the first ship in port that season.![]()
