All is well here in the Northern Calif country and the Sun is shining.
Will look forward to going North on the C S, Have traveled from here to L A many times and do enjoy ridings on trains, and as we (Jackie and I ) sail twice a year know the way around the trains. One time Dora and I went from Redding to L A then on the Sunset limited to Miami to cruise the Caribbean and thru the Panama canal back to L A.
Because I am an Old Goat we plan to travel on the Saturday so we have a full day ( Mon) for me to lax up ready to sail.
Made the Alaska cruise back in 1996 and seeing the pictures people have posted brings back lots of Memories.
Must now plan to Post most days but also have to keep up with our Splendor roll call for our Birthday cruise in Oct, But not to worry old jon is back again. love and Hugs to all John
Hi John, so glad to see you posting AND are thrilled that you and Jackie will be on the cruise with us too. YEAH !!!!!
Knew you liked the trains and what a fantastic opportunity to see the west coast north of you on Amtrak. Going thru the Cascades in Oregon is amazing and I love the route along Puget Sound -- just the thought makes me a bit homesick as I grew up in WA and my family is still there.
Reggie,
Well you know that Dad and I are a go.... we will do the one way to Seattle, then rent a car and toddle our way back when we get back from the cruise. Dad and I put our heads together and I will board the train on Saturday, pick him up along the way in the early hours of the A.M. and be in Seattle (hopefully) on Sunday evening. That will give us Monday to kick back and be ready to board our old friend the CCL Spirit on Tuesday.

"IF" we do the train, we would go from LA on Saturday ... but only do one way. Then more than likely fly home from Vancouver. Costs will play the deciding factor on all. Still lots of time (I know).
We'll be taking the train as well. Union Station to Seattle, what a treat!! We'll have to drive back so Don can get back to work. Good News on the Teacher front!!! Don had the customary lay-off notice recended yesterday. What a blessing!!! I' m so excited about have the opportunity to sail with all of you. This is going to be an amazing adventure!!!

We've always sailed in September on our 2 Alaska cruises. The weather has always been good too. It DEFINITELY will be cold up on deck in Glacier Bay, but we have wore med weight windbreakers in ports (some times not needing those either).
