Be sure to make the time to have tapas at CERVESINA CATALUNYA, mid-block on Carrer Mallorca (a block east of Carrer Catalunya and about three blocks north of the Hotel Continental Palacete. Hotel Continental Palacete is approximately three blocks north of Placa Catalunya on Carrer Catalunya.)
Be sure to try the chicken and ham croquettes, fried peppers, Adulusian style calamari, veal sirloin brochettes, langostino brochettes, marinated mushrooms, and the mixed tapas special, which includes fish, croquettes, olives, peppers, and shrimp. Wash it all down with their wonderful pitchers of sangria. We'll be back!
We arrived very early by Barcelona standards, around 6:30, and were able to get a table within ten minutes. Had we arrived a half hour later, we would have waited for over an hour for a table! Peak time seemed to be around 9:30 p.m. Very popular with locals, nice location. There are a few tables in front outside, too. We loved our table just past the long refrigerated case bar displaying specials of the day. Some of the waitstaff speak English, and the menu has many of the items with English translations. We did all of our ordering in Catalan, which endeared us to the waitstaff, who struggled not to laugh. It was a great goodwill builder, if nothing else.
Not a cheap place, our bill for four of us was over 110 euros. It was worth every penny! Absolutely everything was fresh, beautifully presented, and fabulous tasting.
Can't wait to return!!!!
Hope others will share their favorite tapas places in Barcelona here.
Cheers~
Nicki
