Because of problems with the generator, we did not arrive until 12:30 and had to leave at 4:00. All tours were cancelled and we just went shopping near the ship. The natives were wonderful and the prices were the best. I would love to go back there.

I just returned from a two week cruise and Isla Margarita was one of our port calls. I loved it. The people wer nice and welcomed us. I did not feel threatened or scared at all. We took an open bus excursion to a beach. People waved at us and they looked happy to see us. Upon our return we did stop and a very small shopping center for about 30 mins. I did not buy anything at that shopping center. I did however buy lots of stuff at the shops by the pier. These appeared to be local vendors and I prefer to buy from them as that is how they make their living, at least for many of them. I certainly hope to go there again someday.

Barb and Annie .... Thank you both VERY much for taking the time to tell us about your port stops there. Glad to know others enjoyed Isla de Margarita as much as we always have!

Good example of horrid government -- wonderful people!

Annieeee,
We agree with you!! We, too, loved Isla de Margarita when we visited last April! What friendly great people! We enjoyed shopping at the pier with the local vendors. They were great! Hope to return to the island again in the near future.

We have been to this island several times. The first time we did a bus trip around the island. All the other times we just walked to the beach next to the pier. At one one there was only 1 beach -- now there are 2. The water is so lovely and warm there. Cute little bar to get a drink.

Turns out I will be returning to Isla de Margarita in early Dec. 07.
Hopefully, we will have a drier day than we did last time.
And hopefully, there will be no further escalation of tensions and our visit will be possible.
