Thread: Buenos Aires Anyone ?

Does anyone have any comments (good or bad/to avoid) on visiting Buenos Aires. I have read PagodaSwan's excellent travel information (thanks for that). What I would like to get is first hand impressions from anyone who has been there. We are planing to be there for three days in January following a cruise on Star Princess from Rio to BA via Antarctica.

We spent a glorious post cruise week there a couple of years ago and loved every minute. We had a cheapie Howard Johnsons hotel right on Florida Street Mall and either walked everywhere or took very inexpensive taxis. We arranged a day tour to a ranch just outside the city and used Buenos Aires as a base to fly into Iguassu Falls for a two night stay. A must see: as Clinton said upon seeing the falls, "Poor Niagara."

My husband is bilingual in French/English and can murder Spanish so we managed Buenos Aires on our own. All the malls and tourist spots were well guarded with armed police,, but we felt safe, mind you we're not night hawks.

Specifics are fading in my memory, but we loved the city and regretted not having longer, but we'd already had 2 weeks in Peru, and the 2 week cruise.

All this fuss, for some advice. In rereading our Emails home, I realize they were more to give the flavour of the trip and short on specific names which would be of practical assistance.

Yes, I'm on line for a brief while now, and yes we appear to be 'friends.' Just ones with whom direct communication is challenging to say the least.
