It seems to be better from news reports, but is the "better" good enough to satisfy most folks?
We declined to get off the ship earlier this month when we docked there.
Char .... Thanks for the current update!
I'd read it was better. Like you were saying ... Better compared to what ....![]()

I was there last Christmas and it seemed fine. We got a taxi to the old town & as long as you're prepared for the onslaught of hawkers it wasn't a problem - we've perfected the art of the very firm No! (they need to go and have lessons from the guys in Egypt & Ephesus - they really know how to hassle you!!)
We then took a taxi to a modern mall - we'd forgotten to pack an ipod charger, so went in search of one. Found it really quickly and then did some shopping - bigger t-shirts for my lovely husband & a great handbag for me. - no western brand names - all interesting stuff for the dedicated shopper!
I'm not sure I'd want to be there after dark - but during cruise hours it was ok!
Sue & Russell - still trying to find a way to be always cruising!

When I was there it was great - still have to be careful and a couple of unnerving moments - but it may be because I was out and about in the early hours of the morning, it was a great party though! Old town is very safe, one tip for me, if anyone gives you food to sample, decline, I was offered one and then there was upset when I refused to pay. Old town is beautiful! It is definitely worth the visit over new town!
