Cruise lines add more South America trips

Intent on satisfying cruise lovers eager for new destinations, cruise lines are adding more South America itineraries. (Carnival will offer its first cruises on the continent next January; Royal Caribbean will significantly expand its South American presence late this year.) Most ships sail between December and April, which is summer on the continent.

I have been ordering the SA brochures from the different cruiselines. Hubby wants to go see the Iguazu falls.

So - are you leaning toward any one in particular at this point?

It probably will be Princess, but we'll see. The earliest I can see us doing this cruise would be December 2010. I'll be going crazy this spring waiting for the cruiselines to announce which ships are doing the "exotics" itineraries.

If we do go with the SA cruise, it would have to be during our girl's winter break, and the flights semi-reasonable. Then we would have to decide whether to book the cruisetour through the cruiseline or on our own. I'm seeing that most of the cruiselines do offer cruisetours to the Falls.

Patty, don't forget you'll need visas for everyone if you're stopping in Brazil.

I read that in a guide book. I guess you have to get that on your own. I understand with the Australia cruises, the cruiselines will usually get the required visas for the passengers.

Here's the website for the Brazilian embassy:

Brazilian Embassy - Washington D.C. - Visa Eligibilities

I guess that's where one mails the money for the visas.
