We are on solstice 10/23/2011. Why was itinerary changed?

I don't know if anyone knows the "why" of the change, but if anyone can find it out, it would be Lars.

Well, Char. I am not so sure about that. I never got an explanation as to why.

Phase of the moon? Someone at Celebrity did not like the port taxes? Too many ships were in that day?

Could be any number of reasons, unfortunately the cruise lines very seldom say "why" unless it is for bad weather or mass destruction.

Does anyone have any suggestions for shore excursions or do it yourself excursions other than what celebrity
offers

Of course We are doing private tours in Naples, Dubrovnik and Marseille.

You will find details about those tours in this thread.

In Civitavecchia we are thinking about renting a car and drive to the Italian countryside.
In Livorno we will be taking the train to Lucca and spend the day there.

Are there any ports you are specially interested in???
